Tasted by srp_gc on 8/16/2020: Great wine, closing in on the end of its life (886 views)
Tasted by srp_gc on 10/13/2019: Opened together with 2007 as a comparason. 2008 was a good wine, but clearly not as well rounded as 2007. (1060 views)
Tasted by JWG on 7/1/2019 & rated 90 points: Very much like the bottle we opened in 2018. See notes. A lovely wine overall and still as good as before. (1125 views)
Tasted by JWG on 4/29/2018 & rated 90 points: Nose is bright and grassy and floral. Palate has dark, smoky juice along with bracing acidity. Some spice and tannic hit to round it off. (1601 views)
Tasted by JWG on 6/3/2017 & rated 90 points: Even better than before. Nose has gotten more complex over time. Now has significant floral notes as well as the grassy quality. Palate has some dark, smoky juice along with the minerality. Some spice and tannic note at the end. (2148 views)
Tasted by bacchus of knockholt on 1/15/2017 & rated 88 points: Ruby with garnet flecks. Nose of red fruit, some heat flair the nostrils. Raspberry and red cherry fruits and then a pronounced black pepper and spice attack on the finish, I have been disappointed by this wine before but it has finally come round and is drinking well now, shame it's my last bottle.... (1506 views)
Tasted by JWG on 2/18/2016 & rated 89 points: Nose has some green grass and light stone fruit. Palate has significant minerality with light juicy fruit and a hit of spiciness. A bit of tannic bite at the end. Lovely with cheeses and bread. (1917 views)
Tasted by bacchus of knockholt on 1/2/2016 & rated 83 points: Sweet strawberry and raspberry fruit. The palate offers up the same, quite sweet ripe raspberry fruit but there's a pronounced drying greeness on the finish. I've tried this wine a number of times over the years and it's still not come together. Disappointing. (1935 views)
Tasted by Triangle Wine Country on 3/4/2014 & rated 90 points: The wine looks ruby colored. There is light sediment in the bottle. It smells like blackberry, cranberry, prune and stoniness. The body is medium. The wine has round texture. The wine finishes long. The wine has high acidity. Decant two or more hours. (3008 views)
Tasted by bacchus of knockholt on 2/16/2014 & rated 85 points: Medium ruby with watery rim. Red berry fruit. Palate is rich redcurrant, some chocolate notes too, a hint of pepper, alcohol is pronounced. Has definitely come around since I last tasted it a couple of years ago; drinking well now. Very good but not particularly my style which is why I have scored it a couple of points lower. (2495 views)
Tasted by srp_gc on 8/25/2013: Good full bodied wine, which needed a bit of air-time to open up. I suspect the long drive wouldn't have helped, and allowing it to settle and then decanting would have improved it. However, despite that, it was still a great bottle, and a good match to the beef bourguignon (just don't tell anyone from Burgundy!) (2974 views)
Tasted by austinbeeman- austinbeeman.com on 5/19/2013 & rated 91 points: I gave this a 94 points on 1/10/2011. Not sure I put it at that level today, but still very fine wine. Maybe it was the context of other superb Rhones that keep my score humble.

This popped with beautiful pure wild strawberries (from Carpentras) and then continued with a crystalline purity. Lots of pretty red fruits. Delicious and fresh with a finish that hints at white pepper.

Tasted by Mike Ritner on 5/26/2012: Deep maroon color. Full-bodied. Disjointed and rough at first; needs a 90 minute decant to smooth and integrate; then the magic happens. Robust, complex flavors; lots of jammy fruit, herbal notes, and cloves on both nose and tongue. There is an old-fashioned, classic feel to this delightful wine. (4106 views)
Tasted by JWG on 4/29/2012 & rated 88 points: Had it on the road, so may have been a little unsettled, and here only truncated, undetailed notes. Lovely nose, but a bit of funk and wood, and the palate was dark fruit and rich but just off in some way I can't name this time, which took away from the rich texture of the whole mouth feel. (2839 views)
Tasted by willthethrill on 4/22/2012 & rated 89 points: They seem to be pushing this big time at Bar Boulud on West side...big dark purple thick cherry cough syrup. (3058 views)
Tasted by Giggs on 4/8/2012 & rated 89 points: Decanted 4 hours. Lots of apricot and passion fruit on the nose which is similar to the 2007, but here more floral in its sweetness. Meaty aromas, peppered beef jerky, underneath the initial apricot. Medium-bodied palate, leathery, black currant, dark berry, enough acidity, but lacks concentration in midpalate, which is on par for the 2008 vintage. Comes across more subtle, feminine, and thinner than the brawny 2007. (2542 views)
Tasted by Hecht_Pede on 1/28/2012 & rated 90 points: decanted for 2 hours and drunk over the course of 4 hours.
Very traditional in style not big and massive but more
clean and subtle, dark transperant red color, vegetables driven on the nose makes me think off
food smelling this.

great wine for the $ but to me its lacking abit overall, might consider trying this again. .

for now 89-90 pts. (2530 views)
Tasted by bacchus of knockholt on 1/20/2012 & rated 86 points: Still very young. Dark ruby, nose of bramble red and black fruits, herbs and green pepper. Black fruit and very chewy tannins and bright acidity, needs more time. (864 views)
Tasted by peternelson on 11/4/2011 & rated 91 points: Meaty with jerky notes; blueberry-raspberry; nice balance, a bit rustic character, but not country bumpkin at all; good tannins, chewy, but not herbal or gooey; elegant mouth, good balance, and really well done. (995 views)
Tasted by tcfishler on 9/24/2011: Stony nose. Acids stand out, but the silky medium bodiedness is attractive. (2519 views)
Tasted by Abigailkb on 9/14/2011 & rated 95 points: Peppery! Outstanding, but needs food and will overpower lighter or more graceful dishes. Think roast meat. (2584 views)
Tasted by AngelicWines on 4/22/2011 & rated 91 points: Classic rustic Rhone barnyard scent, stone, dust, and a hint of rye. Later some grapefruit in the nose. The taste was dry, rich, soft in the front with nice acidity. A bit of grapefruit and molasses later. This one is a little young but still very enjoyable. I will pick a couple more up to hold onto for a bit. (2693 views)
Tasted by austinbeeman- austinbeeman.com on 1/10/2011 & rated 94 points: BEST BUY!
Charred wood nose. Reminds you of walking into an old historical building Somehow feels old and well-made. Really nice flavors here. Melted jello full of smoked earth. Not one fruit but many. Not one mineral but many. Very complex. Insanely good for this price. Doesn't taste like a Chateauneuf, but truly like Gigondas is supposed to. Superb!

Red Rhone Blend

Read about the different grapes used to produce red and white Rhone wines
On CellarTracker, Red Rhone Blend is the term for a wine consisting of two or more of the traditional 13 Southern Rhone grape varieties. Typically it's the Grenache, Syrah, Mourvedre or Cinsault grapes, but can also contain the Muscardin, Counoise, Clairette, Bourboulenc, Picpoul, Roussanne, Terret Noir, Picardan or Vaccarese grapes.

A 'food' wine. Lacking pretension and intended for local consumption with local cuisine. Lacks the 'high' notes on a Bordeaux, more earthy and sharper so often a better partner to meat dishes with a sauce.
