| Tasted by VinoAddict on 9/9/2023: Surprisingly showing very well. Silky texture with medium weight on palate. Cedar spice, darker fruits, hint of acidity. Stood up well to a variety of meats. No decanting required. (453 views) |
| Tasted by Too much practice. on 9/23/2014 & rated 90 points: Great with steak. Surprisingly strong showing. Mixing fruit with rich velvet. Woody (oaked?) notes. It is great stuff. Will miss this. (3214 views) |
| Tasted by hongjiu on 2/2/2014 & rated 87 points: Still going strong but the, er, acrid pungency has become more pronounced as the fruit has softened. (3585 views) |
| Tasted by VanAnkum on 5/12/2013 & rated 90 points: Ready to drink. Decanted 2 hours before dinner, kept developing in the glass. Typical example of a good wine maker during a not terrific season. Good! (3987 views) |
| Tasted by HPringle on 1/1/2013 & rated 93 points: Notable step up from last tasting. Decanted two hours before drinking and continued to develop in glass. Initially feared the dreaded burnt rubber notes but these dissipated to be replaced by bright berry notes, with liquorice and just enough grip. Suggestion that this is at its peak now. Very rewarding and as good a pinotage as I've tasted in a long time. (4160 views) |
| Tasted by HPringle on 1/3/2011 & rated 87 points: Remains a fine example of a classic pinotage in what was an average year. Displaying traces of dreaded burnt rubber notes but so much more going on. Suggestion that this is at its peak, with tannins softened (though more apparent than identical bottle opened two months previously). Did not decant, which regret as wine was opening up in the glass. | Tasted by pjaines on 12/19/2007 & rated 82 points: Big fat wine with that classic Pinotage smell. This and the Backsberg Pinotage are the only two pinotage I have liked. This is rich, lush, full bodied - blacker than black in the glass with smells of meat, rubber, tar, bacon, coffee, chocolate - quite a bit of sweetness as well. For those who have never had pinotage it can be quite a weird smell but for those who like something outside of the norm then it can quite quite interesting. The taste is smooth, powerful with a soft mouthfeel but very strong flavours of meat, coffee and dark friut. To be honest, you wouldn't want this wine without some food - it can be a bit full on.
Overall good. Needs a few years to relax some of its flavours. (2552 views) |
| Tasted by pontac on 3/8/2007 & rated 89 points: Kanonkop Estate - Party & Tasting - Pinotage (Kanonkop Estate): Very dark, sweet nose. This is quite different on the palate from the previous 6 vintages -- theres' wine gums, sweet jamminess. Its very drinkable, but theres a different tone about it. This is the handover vintage with both Abrie Beeslaar and Beyers Truter. (2979 views) |

Verrrry bretty nose with underling fruits. Very present nose of oak and blue cheese. Very chemical band-aid taste, no body nor finish. utter garbage. (2295 views) |
