Fairly high in acidity in a lip smacking attack of glossy red cherries dunked in dark chocolate. Very mineral and persistent on the palate, gliding effortlessly into a long finish that keeps you salivating and reach for the next sip. It’s the wine you want to drink now, I couldn’t ask for anything else from a wine really on nose or palate. It’s my kind of drug really. (1993 views)

I was swirling my first bit and my friend sitting next to me remarked that he was already hit by the perfume - wonderful cherry fruit with a remarkable intensity, racy and soaring and this immediately lip smacking palate with lots of umami and depth and a long finish. A marvel of a wine and in such a sweet spot right now. (2059 views)

So intriguing with its nose of pronounced umami, sesame oil, nori wrapper, pyrotechnic. It immediately reminded me of his fantastic Reignots 09 and a sprinkle of Romanee 12, very high compliment indeed. It was a clear step up over a really very very good bottle of Suchots 08 drank alongside. The Suchots was such an effortless drinking wine, elegance personified. The Reignots was feisty, serious, so unique requiring your attention and the only conclusion to come away was it is clearly Grand Cru in all but name and such an achievement.  Tasted by Paul S on 12/12/2015 & rated 93 points: Domaine du Comte Liger-Belair Tasting (St Regis, Singapore): A different animal from the tremendous 2013 Reignots, but this was a lovely drop in its own right. It had such an attractive nose; I could barely stop smelling it. There was a kaleidescope of shifting scents - earthy, mushroomy tones, some wonderful toasty spice, then fresh red fruit shading into slightly darker notes, a lovely floral undertone, and a haunting spicy linger at the edge of the bouquet. There was still some energy bottled up in that nose, almost hinting that there was more to come, but boy did the wine ever smell great even now. The palate had a cool, almost reserved feel to it at first, showing of the cut and precision that the very best 2008 reds all share, but also coming across a little light, especially when compared to the Grand Cru-like depth of the 2013. In time though, this wine really creeps up on you, with the elegant shape of its dark cherry and berry flavours underpinned by the serious, minerally structure and fresh balance of the terroir, all combining to fill the mouth with lovely juicy goodness. Lovely backapalate too, very juicy, with a nice sense of nervous energy driving the wine to a lovely long finish were a blush of spice and flowers and a flush of Oolong tea wed to just a little chew of tannins. This seems to have shut down just a bit since I last tried it some 4 years back. It is beautiful stuff that will probably drink decently well throughout its life though, perhaps entering its peak drinking window over the next 6-8 years or so. (5657 views)

Even it's young but the wine performs very well.
Beautiful and dramatic, hints of Jayer's spirit and soul.
Splendid and well-made with a linger long aftertaste.
This must be the very elegant wine when it's ready to drink.

So sad that I have only 1 bottle. I better go to the domaine to buy this gem. (WOTN)

 Tasted by Dbrane on 4/9/2011 & rated 95 points: Louis Michel Liger-Belair presents Domaine du Comte Liger-Belair (St. Regis, Singapore): The Reignots shares many similarities with the Petits Monts (which is not surprising since they abut each other), with intense minerality, purity and seamless balance. However, it one ups the Petit Monts by its sheer presence. Presence is something which always appears in great Burgundies, and when it appears you know that you have reached the pinnacle of what Burgundy is all about. This will certainly be extraordinary with age. A zen wine. (5554 views)
 Tasted by Paul S on 4/9/2011 & rated 94 points: Domaine du Comte Liger-Belair Masterclass (St. Regis Hotel, Singapore): Brilliant stuff. I liked the more reserved 1er Cru Petit Monts a little better when I first tasted this, but as time went by, this clearly stole a march on the former wine. It had a deep, heady Vosne nose. Toast, wood spice, lemongrass, whiffs of black earth all on an underlayer of sweet dark fruit. The nose was actually rather reminiscent of the straight Vosne village, just with everything in greater proportions and amplitude - deeper, richer, more resounding. As with the Petit Monts though, it was on the palate where the sheer quality of the wine really shone. Fresh, lively, super well integrated, it unfolded with an absolute mouthfull of flavour: lovely dark cherries and plums, gentle washes of spice and some floral perfume. Rich, generous flavours all the way into the back-palate, where toasty spice notes blossomed in the mouth. The finish here had such a lovely freshness and open, generous feel that each sip of the wine called out for another. Certainly more impressive on this count than the Petit Monts I thought. Finish aside, the Petit Monts was darker, spicier. This was higher toned in its fruit expression, more lifted, a bit more feminine almost. However, what I really enjoyed most of all though is how the wine wore its deliciously pure flavours. In spite of its obvious presence and depth, it was always elegant, always full of finesse, almost gracefully effortless in the way it translated in the mouth. Make no mistake though, for all its grace and precision, this was a structured wine with tons of substance, and one that will reward a long, patient cellaring. (5780 views)

From a big parcel which produce approx 10barrels every year. Aux Reignots offer more complexity for the mixture of soil.

Similar complex aromatic profile to the Petit Monts, but this is even spicier on the nose with better focus and depth, very fine. This doesn’t possess the mid palate punch and power as the Petit Monts, but with better depth and purity, very classy, sophisticated I would say. Impeccable balance, harmonious, seamless finish that doesn’t like the explosive finish that Petit Monts could offer, instead, it lingers with juicy sweet dark fruits and spices with great persistent. I prefer this than the Petit Monts. A Zen wine. Buy - Yes. (5626 views)

Pinot Noir is the Noble red grape of Burgundy, capable of ripening in a cooler climate, which Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot will not reliably do. It is unpredictable and difficult both to grow and to vinify, but results in some of the finest reds in the world. It is believed to have been selected from wild vines two thousand years ago. It is also used in the production of champagne. In fact, more Pinot Noir goes into Champagne than is used in all of the Cote d'Or! It is also grown in Alsace, Jura, Germany, the U.S., Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Romania, Switzerland, Austria, Croatia, Serbia, Italy, and so forth, with varying degrees of success.


Pinot Noir is one of the world's most prestigious grapes. It is very difficult to grow and thrives well in France, especially in Champagne and Burgundy. Pinot Noir thrives less in hot areas, is picky on soil, and deserves some oak storage.

Pinot Noir, or Blauburgunder / Spätburgunder in German, is a blue grapevine - and, as the German name suggests, the grape comes originally from Burgundy in France.

The grape, which thrives in calcareous soils, is used primarily for the production of red wine, and it is widely regarded as producing some of the best wines in the world. The wine style is often medium-bodied with high fruit acidity and soft tannins. It can be quite peculiar in fragrance and taste, and not least in structure - which may be why it is referred to as "The Grapes Ballerina".
Pinot Noir is also an important ingredient in sparkling wines, not least in champagne since it is fruity, has good acidity and contains relatively little tannins.
The grape is considered quite demanding to grow. The class itself consists of tightly packed grapes, which makes it more sensitive to rot and other diseases.

Pinot Noir changes quite easily and is genetically unstable. It buds and matures early which results in it often being well ripened. Climate is important for this type of grape. It likes best in cool climates - in warm climates the wines can be relaxed and slightly pickled.
In cooler climates, the wine can get a hint of cabbage and wet leaves, while in slightly warmer regions we often find notes of red berries (cherries, strawberries, raspberries, currants), roses and slightly green notes when the wine is young. With age, more complex aromas of forest floor, fungi and meat emerge.

In Germany, Switzerland, Austria and Hungary, it often produces light wines with less character. However, it has produced very good results in California, Oregon and New Zealand.

With its soft tannins and delicate aroma, it is excellent for white fish, chicken and light meat. For the stored wines you can serve small game. Classic duck breast is a matter of course, a Boeuf Burgundy and Pinot Noir are pure happiness.

Pinot Noir loses quality by over-harvesting.
Pinot Noir is prone to diseases, especially rot and mildew. Viruses cause major problems especially in Burgundy.
Pinot Noir are large round grapes with thin skins. Relatively high in alcohol content. Medium rich tannins and good with acid.
As a young person, Pinot Noir has a distinctly fruity character such as raspberries, cherries and strawberries.
A mature Pinot Noir, the taste is different. Cherry goes into plum and prune flavors. It smells of rotten leaves, coffee, moist forest floor and animal wine. This must be experienced.
In warm climates you find boiled plum, some rustic, little acid.
If the grapes are over-grown, the wine will be thin, with little color and flavor.

Burgundy - The province of eastern France, famous for its red wines produced from Pinot Noir and its whites produced from Chardonnay. (Small of amounts of Gamay and Aligoté are still grown, although these have to be labeled differently.) The most famous part of the region is known as the Cote d'Or (the Golden Slope). It is divided into the Cote de Beaune, south of the town of Beaune (famous principally for its whites), and the Cote de Nuits, North of Beaune (home of the most famous reds). In addition, the Cote Chalonnaise and the Maconnais are important wine growing regions, although historically a clear level (or more) below the Cote d'Or. Also included by some are the regions of Chablis and Auxerrois, farther north.

Vosne-Romanée 1er Cru

Vosne Romanée is one of the smallest wine villages in Burgundy The wines possess diverse characteristics, but they can generally considered to have complexity and longevity beyond nearly all other wines in the world. The village has six grand crus: Romanée-Conti, La Romanée, La Tâche, Richebourg, Romanée-Saint-Vivant, and La Grande Rue. While there is monopoly control of four of the six grand crus, the village has at least forty growers sharing its vineyards. The top premier cru includes Les Malconsorts, Cros Parantoux, Les Chaumes, and Clos des Réas.
