Tasted by Joeyskills on 2/3/2024 & rated 98 points: Absolutely spectacular. Bright red fruit. Subtle earthy nose. Could almost be mistaken for a Right Bank bordeaux! One of my favorite things about Diamond Creek is how pronounced unique flavors can be. (153 views)
Tasted by jnewman77 on 8/7/2022: From 375ml; this was delicious; the nose showed ripe cassis, blueberry, some tobacco, a hint of herbs, violet, and just a hint of damp earth. The palate was full of fruit, but still showed really lovely balance with very good depth and a long finish with a hint of chocolate. Pretty close to fully mature in the smaller size, I suspect a full bottle will have plenty of life left. (738 views)
Tasted by Traxx on 6/21/2020: Really nice wine, needed an hour or so to open up and then was rocking.

Very fine sediment on the last glass, stood up for just a couple days before opening- would suggest longer. (1307 views)
Tasted by mlawren1 on 12/6/2019 & rated 94 points: Dark and thick with currants, cherries and berries over an oily finish. Great wine. (1385 views)
Tasted by MemorialWineFan on 5/20/2016 & rated 92 points: Very good. I like the Volcanic Hill better than this one. This one has some fruit, but the soil really shows through. (2940 views)
Tasted by Battersea James on 8/10/2014 & rated 89 points: I have to say I'm a huge fan of Diamond Creek but this was probably the least thrilling of all the vintages I have tasted. More than likely just needs a lot more time but at this stage it tasted a little too alcoholic and sweet compared to other vintages which seem so perfectly balanced even when fairly young. (3855 views)
Tasted by jnewman77 on 3/26/2014: This was fantastic. Still very young and primary with lots of cassis, toasty vanilla, crushed rock, dusty earth. The wine is balanced and quite lovely right now (from a split, so drinking considerably older). Very high quality cabernet. (3603 views)
Tasted by dtrall on 2/2/2013 & rated 89 points: Still very young but beautiful nose developing. Looking forward to drinking more over the next few years. (4223 views)
Tasted by rjonwine@gmail.com on 10/17/2012 & rated 93 points: 2012 Wine & Spirits Top 100 Tasting (City View at Metreon, San Francisco, California): Very dark red violet color; black currant, cedar nose; black currant, loam palate; medium-plus finish 93+ points (1321 views)
Tasted by beezer6 on 10/5/2012 & rated 93 points: Taste at Cut from magnum.
Gorgeous bright ripe fruit and leather. Just popped and poured. Nice mineral notes on the palate. Extremely balanced. Should improve greatly with age. Still so young. (4220 views)
Tasted by DadsWine on 5/20/2012 & rated 91 points: Quite tight but with great fruit shows the potential of this wine in the years to come. Too young to fully appreciate now it is still showing as a very good wine. Patience should reward us with an outstanding wine in a few years, though. (3617 views)
Tasted by Jeff Leve on 5/15/2012 & rated 91 points: With forest floor, tobacco, cedar, cassis and blackberry aromas, this tannic, structured, old school California wine will need a lot of time to soften. The wine is austere and masculine in style, with cassis and cranberry in the tannic finish. Fans of Cabernet Sauvignon from the 70’s will feel right at home with this wine. (2565 views)
Tasted by beezer6 on 5/7/2012 & rated 92 points: Heritage Grand Wine Tasting (Ritz-Carlton - Chicago, IL): Richer than RRT. More black fruit and iron. Less dust on the finish. Little much to merit more points. (2869 views)
Tasted by Ben Christiansen on 12/12/2011: Now here is a classic Napa Cabernet. Great stuff at $150. Needs time. (1585 views)
Tasted by KeithAkers on 10/25/2011 & rated 92 points: 2008 Diamond Creek Cabs (Binny's Highland park): nose: fairly open nose for such a young diamond creek with balanced and pure tones of red fruits, dark red cherries, red currants, cassis and some perfume tones. More high-toned on the nose, but with a cab heft behind it

taste: full bodied with very good balanced and very sneaky but firm tannins. Polished and elegant feel with tones of red fruits, red currants, dark red cherries, and cassis tones with some bits of minerals as well

overall: wasn't as tannic as I expected, but that is not to say it wasn't tannic at all. This was more on the elegant side and certainly does need some time before it shows what it really has to offer (1890 views)
Tasted by rdrunner on 4/9/2011 & rated 95 points: Drank at Diamond Creek - beautiful property and wine ! (2062 views)

Cabernet Sauvignon

Cabernet Sauvignon is probably the most famous red wine grape variety on Earth. It is rivaled in this regard only by its Bordeaux stablemate Merlot, and its opposite number in Burgundy, Pinot Noir. From its origins in Bordeaux, Cabernet has successfully spread to almost every winegrowing country in the world. It is now the key grape variety in many first-rate New World wine regions, most notably Napa Valley, Coonawarra and Maipo Valley. Wherever they come from, Cabernet Sauvignon wines always seem to demonstrate a handful of common character traits: deep color, good tannin structure, moderate acidity and aromas of blackcurrant, tomato leaf, dark spices and cedarwood.

Used as frequently in blends as in varietal wines, Cabernet Sauvignon has a large number of common blending partners. Apart from the obvious Merlot and Cabernet Franc, the most prevalent of these are Malbec, Petit Verdot and Carmenere (the ingredients of a classic Bordeaux Blend), Shiraz (in Australia's favorite blend) and in Spain and South America, a Cabernet – Tempranillo blend is now commonplace. Even the bold Tannat-based wines of Madiran are now generally softened with Cabernet Sauvignon

USA

American wine has been produced since the 1500s, with the first widespread production beginning in New Mexico in 1628. Today, wine production is undertaken in all fifty states, with California producing 84% of all U.S. wine. The continent of North America is home to several native species of grape, including Vitis labrusca, Vitis riparia, Vitis rotundifolia, and Vitis vulpina, but the wine-making industry is based almost entirely on the cultivation of the European Vitis vinifera, which was introduced by European settlers. With more than 1,100,000 acres (4,500 km2) under vine, the United States is the fourth-largest wine producing country in the world, after Italy, Spain, and France.

2021 vintage: "Unlike almost all other areas of the state, the Russian River Valley had higher than normal crops in 2021, which has made for a wine of greater generosity and fruit forwardness than some of its stablemates." - Morgan Twain-Peterson
