Worth every bit of 94 points. Still has fruit, cassis, soft wood, eucalypt and mint in the background, smooth tannins and lingering length. Throwing a bit of sediment but no where near tertiary yet. 94+ (168 views) | | Tasted by crazywineguy on 10/26/2019 & rated 91 points: On opening very little nose then 2nd day black olive/menthol/heat/alcohol nose. Tastes surprisingly young for a 13yr old. Strongly fruited with charcoal, green and black olives. Strong fine tuned tannins that need food to tame them , mouthcoating. This needs another 7 years to reach its peak under screwcap. Will be a very long lived wine. Suits strong meaty dishes, nothing delicate. Perhaps a tad mono-dimensional in the fruit profile, better if had more layers of nuance. Impenetrable black in colour with dark red edges, starting to throw a bit of skin in the bottle but showing very little sediment in the glass. Bold fruit, with flavours of chocolate, licorice, coconut and old French oak. Some Coonawarra mint/eucalypt/menthol but not dominating. Full body with lingering length and lovely mouthfeel. I look forward to further bottle development in the years to come. 94+ (1379 views) | | Tasted by nulla on 7/30/2016 & rated 95 points: Ten years on and this is evolving into an amazing wine. Almost black in colour with dark red edges. A big dollop of fruit, licorice, coconut and old French oak. A hint of Coonawarra mint/eucalypt/menthol. Great body, mouthfeel, length and lingering flavours. There is scope for further improvement with age and I hope I can keep my hands off some of this for at least another 5 years. 95+ No wonder it won gold medals. Not sure if an average year or just not the legs for the long haul. Strange that at 10 years of age this seems to be sliding, I would have expected better from a Limestone Ridge. (1414 views) |
