| Community Tasting Notes (average 90.8 pts. and median of 90 pts. in 4 notes) - hiding notes with no text | | Tasted by CamWheeler on 5/17/2018 & rated 90 points: GMs - Aussie Classics: Stem, undergrowth, chocolate, blueberry and violets. The palate has good life about it, with the structure holding things well in place. Not that complex, and I don't think it'll stand up to much more aging, probably now to 5 years will be a good time to drink it. (1444 views) | | Tasted by jesran on 2/12/2011 & rated 91 points: Heavy Levi Garret chewing tobacco nose. Like opening a fresh bag and sticking your nose in it. Still smell and taste oak after all these years. (2686 views) | | Tasted by AN on 3/29/2009 & rated 93 points: Deep ruby/garnet core with medium garnet rim. Heavy deposit in the bottle. Unbelievable flavours! As soon as I decanted the wine, it just filled the whole room. Pronounced animal and vegetal character - leather, wet wool, tobacco, wet leaves - combined with ripeness notes - like jam, some caramel. The fruit flavours are also still there in the background - mostly black fruit, but almost gone, since Nose is very developed. Flavours reveal the same indications combined with sweet dried fruit aftertaste which was very long. Medium body, medium acidity, low and very ripe tannins. I am even sorry to have tasted this wine with smoked sausages, which actually worked very well with it. What a great find! It's a great mature Coonawarra, in line with a 3rd growth for sure, but for a fraction of the price. Strongly reccomended. If only I had more of these St. Georges - apparently it's a 12ha single vineyard from Coonawarra. Cheers! (3087 views) |

Individually, each wine is a distinguished eample of its style; collectively, they comprise a unique range ilustrating the potential of the Coonawarra wine region. The Lindemans Coonawarra St. George Vineyard Cabemet Sauvignon is sourced from 30 year old vines in the celebrated 12 hectare St. George Vineyard. This particularly low yielding vineyard located directly on the limestone spine of the Terra Rossa strip and produces a wine that is the very essence of Coonawarra. Intense, but balanced, with great potential to age and expressive of both varietal and vintage.
The 2000 Lindemans Coonawarra St. George Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon exhibits an intense purple, red colour with crimson hues and a brooding nose of ripe blackcurrant fruit, tobacco characters and cinnamon oak. The palate is full bodied, brimming cinnamon with rich, sweet fruit which is complemented by fine tannins an lingering oak flavours.
A true representation of the vintage, the 2000 Lindemans St George will be restrained in its youth, but has great potential and correctly cellared will age gracefully for cellann many years.Cabernet SauvignonCabernet Sauvignon is probably the most famous red wine grape variety on Earth. It is rivaled in this regard only by its Bordeaux stablemate Merlot, and its opposite number in Burgundy, Pinot Noir. From its origins in Bordeaux, Cabernet has successfully spread to almost every winegrowing country in the world. It is now the key grape variety in many first-rate New World wine regions, most notably Napa Valley, Coonawarra and Maipo Valley. Wherever they come from, Cabernet Sauvignon wines always seem to demonstrate a handful of common character traits: deep color, good tannin structure, moderate acidity and aromas of blackcurrant, tomato leaf, dark spices and cedarwood.
Used as frequently in blends as in varietal wines, Cabernet Sauvignon has a large number of common blending partners. Apart from the obvious Merlot and Cabernet Franc, the most prevalent of these are Malbec, Petit Verdot and Carmenere (the ingredients of a classic Bordeaux Blend), Shiraz (in Australia's favorite blend) and in Spain and South America, a Cabernet – Tempranillo blend is now commonplace. Even the bold Tannat-based wines of Madiran are now generally softened with Cabernet SauvignonAustralia Wine Australia (Australian Wine and Brandy Corporation) | Australian Wines (Wikipedia)South Australia South Australian Wine Industry Association | South Australian Wines (Wikipedia)Limestone Coast Limestone CoastCoonawarra Coonawarra |
