Community Tasting History

Community Tasting Notes (average 93.2 pts. and median of 93 pts. in 28 notes) - hiding notes with no text

Tasted by DfwCabLover on 12/25/2023 & rated 95 points: Incredible bottle, still very fruit forward for the age. Definitely has some life left in it. (148 views)
Tasted by Geaux Tigers on 3/5/2020 & rated 90 points: PnP and into a decanter. Initially I thought this was flawed but the funk wore off after 15 min in the decanter. Good, not great, past its prime. The fruit is fading and nice tertiaries are coming into play. The is bordering on the line where my gray zone for CA cabernet lies. Secondary market purchase so provenance is questionable. (1449 views)
Tasted by rpontual on 11/8/2018 & rated 93 points: Nice ruby color, tannins resolved. Light leather on nose. Well balanced with the right amount of wine. Nice medium sized body. Medium to short finish.

Overall a great wine. I believe there is no benefit to have additional cellar time, but the are no signs of decline. (1319 views)
Tasted by timdrex on 6/22/2015 & rated 94 points: Decanted 1 hr before the first taste. Alive with silky tannins, smoke, leather, mocha, dark cherry, burnt chocolate, and a hint of metal. Long finish. I think this is peaking now. (3427 views)
Tasted by timdrex on 7/21/2014 & rated 94 points: Initially rather soft and sweet-not something I'd usually characterize in a big Napa cab right out of the bottle. Over the next two hours it brought forth flavors of cherry-charcoal, blueberry and other dark fruits, with minerality notes that were beautifully complimentary, and not likely to get flabby anytime soon as is probably the risk for '07 Napa fruit.

Should mature and drink well at least through 2019. (4097 views)
Tasted by timdrex on 2/22/2014 & rated 93 points: Opened beautifully after 30 minutes and continued to hold several hours later (4333 views)
Tasted by Neil H on 12/15/2013 & rated 96 points: Stunningly amazing! (3986 views)
Tasted by timdrex on 8/2/2013 & rated 92 points: Nose of dark fruit and a little leather. Not as ripe and extracted as the typical '07 Napa cab.

Nicely balanced fruit and tannins. This wine has the finesse to do well with foods more delicate than grilled steak. (4039 views)
Tasted by timdrex on 12/26/2012 & rated 93 points: Surprisingly, no sediment in the bottle for a big cab. Balanced fruit, medium finish. Give it a 3-hr decant to give it a chance to express itself. (2477 views)
Tasted by carlsport on 10/29/2012 & rated 95 points: Really enjoyed this at the Arroyo Chop House with the Wolflicks. Opened at home and decanted for an hour and poured back into the bottle; then allowed it to decant in the glass for another 20-30 minutes at the restaurant. Very complex with dark berries and roasted coffee on the nose, giving way to more dark fruit and slight licorice on the palate. Well integrated tannins and a silky extended finish. Was signing when drunk after a bite of my ribeye! (1962 views)
Tasted by cawineaux on 10/16/2011 & rated 93 points: Beautiful clear dark purple in the glass. The nose is subtle leather, plum, and baking spices. The palate is delicate berries, ripe cherry, and a hint of milk chocolate. The finish is not short, but it is subtle. Beautiful wine ready to drink. I doubt that time in the cellar will be friendly to this wine. (2822 views)
Tasted by ClaudioMac1 on 9/2/2011 & rated 94 points: Fruit forward bouquet opens up after an hour or two to reveal the complexity. The roasted coffee, leathery tannin structure give hints of great longevity and underlie a licorice and ripe raspberry, red fruit freshness that is supple and welcoming right now. A wine that will likely age for 10+ years but is perfect today with a barbecued porterhouse with sea salt and rosemary chimicurri or venison tenderloin with red fruit compote. (2746 views)
Tasted by markcvino on 8/22/2011 & rated 95 points: Very pleasant wine; nose a little muted; nice fruit and well balanced. (2899 views)
Tasted by Neil H on 8/11/2011 & rated 97 points: Outstanding bottle of wine. May become a 99-100 in 3-5 years. (2362 views)
Tasted by markcvino on 2/22/2011 & rated 94 points: Very pleasant Cabernet. Dark purple in color with graphite, cassis, and moderate fruit apparent on the palate.
Nice body with a long finish. All in all, lived up the Sommelier's description and recommendation. Would definitely drink again. (2689 views)
Tasted by rjonwine@gmail.com on 1/25/2011 & rated 91 points: In Vino Unitas: California Producers Direct Market (St. Francis Yacht Club, San Francisco, California): Very dark red violet color; nice ripe berry, blackberry, plum nose; plush, soft, berry, raspberry, blackberry, plum palate, ready to drink now; medium-plus finish (85% Cabernet Sauvignon, 12% Cabernet Franc, 2% Petit Verdot, 1% Merlot) (3468 views)

Cabernet Sauvignon

Cabernet Sauvignon is probably the most famous red wine grape variety on Earth. It is rivaled in this regard only by its Bordeaux stablemate Merlot, and its opposite number in Burgundy, Pinot Noir. From its origins in Bordeaux, Cabernet has successfully spread to almost every winegrowing country in the world. It is now the key grape variety in many first-rate New World wine regions, most notably Napa Valley, Coonawarra and Maipo Valley. Wherever they come from, Cabernet Sauvignon wines always seem to demonstrate a handful of common character traits: deep color, good tannin structure, moderate acidity and aromas of blackcurrant, tomato leaf, dark spices and cedarwood.

Used as frequently in blends as in varietal wines, Cabernet Sauvignon has a large number of common blending partners. Apart from the obvious Merlot and Cabernet Franc, the most prevalent of these are Malbec, Petit Verdot and Carmenere (the ingredients of a classic Bordeaux Blend), Shiraz (in Australia's favorite blend) and in Spain and South America, a Cabernet – Tempranillo blend is now commonplace. Even the bold Tannat-based wines of Madiran are now generally softened with Cabernet Sauvignon

USA

American wine has been produced since the 1500s, with the first widespread production beginning in New Mexico in 1628. Today, wine production is undertaken in all fifty states, with California producing 84% of all U.S. wine. The continent of North America is home to several native species of grape, including Vitis labrusca, Vitis riparia, Vitis rotundifolia, and Vitis vulpina, but the wine-making industry is based almost entirely on the cultivation of the European Vitis vinifera, which was introduced by European settlers. With more than 1,100,000 acres (4,500 km2) under vine, the United States is the fourth-largest wine producing country in the world, after Italy, Spain, and France.

2021 vintage: "Unlike almost all other areas of the state, the Russian River Valley had higher than normal crops in 2021, which has made for a wine of greater generosity and fruit forwardness than some of its stablemates." - Morgan Twain-Peterson
