Tasted by amflinn on 11/17/2016 & rated 89 points: Decanted for an hour. Rich, dark fruit. Smooth vanilla oak. Seems like there was plenty of life left in this bottle. (2906 views)
Tasted by amflinn on 2/1/2016 & rated 88 points: Cork was slightly compromised, red streaks to the top and crumbled a bit upon opening. Wine did not seem to suffer badly. Slightly more aged than my previous bottle, more of a maroon-ish brown color. (3325 views)
Tasted by juffer on 3/28/2015 & rated 89 points: A relatively open knit and fruit forward wine compared to most of Burgess's wines. Blackberry nose. Rich mid palate. Sweet vanilla finish, but not unreasonably so. Just wish this had a bit more structure either from acidity or tannins. Still, for the price paid ($9.99 discounted), this is extraordinary QPR.  Tasted by costacasa on 7/13/2014 & rated 90 points: Drinking beautifully now...soft tannins, good fruit, very smooth, medium finish. Wonderful paired with a nice steak. Great value. So glad that I have 3 more. The future looks bright. (4244 views)
Tasted by vanpe003 on 4/28/2014 & rated 92 points: In a great place right now. Elegantly styled on both nose and palate. Medium in body, relatively lush mouth feel. Seems fully resolved and at its peak. Excellent QPR at $20 closeout. (4402 views)
Tasted by NathanT on 12/8/2013 & rated 90 points: more tannic than the previous bottle. more complex. same tastiness. (2569 views)
Tasted by rocknroller on 6/25/2013 & rated 92 points: Very dark garnet red color. PNP, drank 2+ glasses over 2 hours. This was showing very well still, and is in a good place to drink. The nose is bright with dry earth, cassis, black cherry, blueberry, somewhat perfumed, briary. The palate is equally impressive with consistent fruits, velvety texture, distinct leaf tobacco, coffee, nice spices, round moderate tannins, medium plus finish. This was a steal. (2639 views)
Tasted by NathanT on 1/17/2013 & rated 90 points: Dark ruby core almost to the rim. Very nice aroma, soft fruit with very slightly detectable tannins, quite smooth and tasty. However, I can see why it can be observed as one dimensional. This bottle looks and tastes right for its age. No decant, drank over 3 hours.

Side note, brought this to a tasting more than a year ago, one taster thought it was significantly older than its age, taster might have mistaken this for the 1999 Juslyn that was sitting next to it. (2635 views)
Tasted by BrunelloBob on 10/2/2012 & rated 88 points: Drank over 2 nights.
Old world, Bordeaux like. Some decent red fruit, maybe a bit too tannic.
I can't decide if this was probably better last year, or will be better next year... (2660 views)
Tasted by Watchster on 6/12/2012 & rated 90 points: Mouthful of black fruit and extended finish. Earthy. (2859 views)
Tasted by HousePour on 6/6/2012 & rated 92 points: Still lots of life in this one. Fruit is intact, framed by acidity and soft tannins. Wish I bought a case of this. (2637 views)
Tasted by Papahype on 7/27/2011 & rated 90 points: Just opened one and the first glass was quit yummy. Very solid taste throughtout. Nice nose, as little faint at first and then opened up nicely. Ready to finnish the rest of the bottle tonight. (3507 views)
Tasted by Jordan7T on 7/15/2011 & rated 88 points: Serviceable - single dimensional, Jammy, decent everyday wine (3388 views)
Tasted by dstraub on 5/11/2011 & rated 89 points: This was a very nice, balanced and good valued wine. We had this and a 2004 Silver Oak Alexander Valley Cab, and this one was clearly the better wine per the entire group. Silver Oak is way over-priced and over-rated. (3423 views)
Tasted by Wamrod on 5/5/2011 & rated 90 points: Dark, clear garnet. Could go a few more years. Prolly a bit young still, but drank nicely.

Soft and mellow, very drinkable, tho not especially complex - ie quite simple.

Still, no rough edges and very drinkable. Excellent QPR. (3392 views)
Tasted by Garfield on 4/19/2011 & rated 88 points: Decanted for 2 hours before serving with dinner. Decent amount of red and black fruits along with mild oak and dusty tannin. This wine is smooth with a great mouth feel. The finish was medium with a lingering dusty cherry taste. I would guess this wine just needs more time to settle out. I'll most likely wait another 6 months before opening another bottle. (3650 views)
Tasted by grafstrb on 4/2/2011: OCP4W IX (WCC in Irvine, CA): -- tasted blind over 5 minutes --
-- this was red wine # 74 --

Nose smelled like an aged CA Cab. or CA Bdx blend; strong menthol/eucalyptus note on the Nose. A bit flat on the palate. 14.4% alc.; Looked, smelled, and tasted significantly older than it is. I have to believe this was an off bottle (heat damage suspected). (4424 views)
Tasted by 3daywinereview.com on 11/2/2010 & rated 91 points: Pichon and CDP at Matt's (Matt's House): Nice wine and served to us blind. I thought Cali Syrah due to the high levels of blackberries combined with spice. Very nice wine with blackberries, spice, smoke, cranberry and bluesberries. A minty quality comes up on the finish. Medium finish and fun to drink. (4873 views)
Tasted by Mattshank on 10/30/2010 & rated 92 points: Pichon and CDP at my place (My House): Mystery Wine brought by Kevin. Nose: Deep red fruits (good ripeness), floral with subtle herbs. Palate: Red fruits, soft styled and very elegant. Guessed this was a CA meritage. I was very close. Delicious wine that on day 2 was still going strong. Thanks to Kevin for bringing this. (4857 views)
Tasted by rocknroller on 10/29/2010 & rated 93 points: Dark Garnet Red. Popped and poured, was beautiful right from the start. Nose is lush, layered, and complex: cassis, cedar, blackberry, tobacco, earth, then later blueberry and coffee. Palate of blackberry, spice, cassis, coffee, great fruit, silky texture on the mouth. Soft tannins and a long finish. I was blown away by this wine. I wish I had a case. 94% Merlot, 3% CS, 3% CF (4377 views)
Tasted by ThirdBottle on 10/4/2010 & rated 90 points: Solid, but I'll give it more time, like the other raters suggested. (4640 views)
Tasted by vanpe003 on 9/25/2010 & rated 91 points: Dark fruit, vanilla/oak, and a touch of brown sugar and olive on an aromatic nose. All that carries to the palate, which is medium in body, some acidity, and very fine tannins. The blend of different varietals seems to help this achieve a very nice balance. I agree with the previous review that some more time will serve this well, though mine won't last 5 years. Try the next bottle in 12-18 months. A short to midterm wine. Good QPR @$20 closeout. (4631 views)
Tasted by Wizaard1 on 7/30/2010 & rated 93 points: Great nose, dark fruit, white pepper and long finish. Drank well now but will likely peak in 5+ years. (5358 views)
Tasted by lutzchicago on 6/8/2010 & rated 88 points: Opened, aerated, decanted and drank. Very solid wine. Opens with blackberries, currants and a heavy presence on the palate. Cabernet comes through the blend. (5181 views)

Red Bordeaux Blend

Red Bordeaux is generally made from a blend of grapes. Permitted grapes are Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Merlot, Petit Verdot, Malbec and rarely Carménère.Today Carménère is rarely used, with Château Clerc Milon, a fifth growth Bordeaux, being one of the few to still retain Carménère vines. As of July 2019, Bordeaux wineries authorized the use of four new red grapes to combat temperature increases in Bordeaux. These newly approved grapes are Marselan, Touriga Nacional, Castets, and Arinarnoa.

Wineries all over the world aspire to making wines in a Bordeaux style. In 1988, a group of American vintners formed The Meritage Association to identify wines made in this way. Although most Meritage wines come from California, there are members of the Meritage Association in 18 states and five other countries, including Argentina, Australia, Canada, Israel, and Mexico.

USA

American wine has been produced since the 1500s, with the first widespread production beginning in New Mexico in 1628. Today, wine production is undertaken in all fifty states, with California producing 84% of all U.S. wine. The continent of North America is home to several native species of grape, including Vitis labrusca, Vitis riparia, Vitis rotundifolia, and Vitis vulpina, but the wine-making industry is based almost entirely on the cultivation of the European Vitis vinifera, which was introduced by European settlers. With more than 1,100,000 acres (4,500 km2) under vine, the United States is the fourth-largest wine producing country in the world, after Italy, Spain, and France.

2021 vintage: "Unlike almost all other areas of the state, the Russian River Valley had higher than normal crops in 2021, which has made for a wine of greater generosity and fruit forwardness than some of its stablemates." - Morgan Twain-Peterson
