Tasted by Burgundy Bill on 4/21/2024 & rated 97 points: Pale golden straw with a green tint… Another pristine bottle of Dauvissat… Tidal pool, iodine, marzipan, sour cream honey and citrus on the nose. Wow these wines are imortal. This bottle was a decades away from decline. The palate is quintessentially Dauvissat - a rippling limestone bench boiling to the surface of an ice cold glacier fed river bursting with dry extract. Broad, rich and precise with a hint of Côte de Beaune behind the quintessence of Chablis a true Grand Cru and one of the greatest white wines in the world. (121 views)
Tasted by acidqueen on 3/27/2024 & rated 94 points: This is fantastic wine and in prime drinking window. That being said, I would not wait longer as I expect no improvement from here and it is a ripe vintage for sure. Color is light gold. It shouts “Chablis” straight out of the glass, that indescribable flavor of stone and salt (and, to me, grape or green apple Jolly Ranchers) that marks Chablis. We had a very good Santa Barbara county Chardonnay as an aperitif wine and I loved it but the characteristic flavors of a top Chablis are obvious. Even in a riper year like 2009.
Besides the stone and salt and Jolly Rancher, this is full of white flowers with jasmine and honeysuckle. The acid is good although I would prefer a bit more. Deep, well structured wine which is not a surprise for Le Clos. If it had a bit more acid I would give it a higher score but this doesn’t mean it is flabby as it certainly is not. I am not even sure about the acid. It probably has plenty of acid but a lighter weight on the other side would make it more attractive. But these are minor quibbles. I would opt for a 30 minute decant to blow off some minor reduction but not more. (254 views)
 Tasted by Raizes on 2/6/2024 & rated 93 points: 柠檬、柑橘、香料、酵母和明显的矿物咸感。香气闻起来略显封闭,但在口中宽广与深厚兼具。酸度不算非常高,但结构严谨有力,显得精力充沛。质地圆润柔顺,且后段会有更多芝士搭配白花蜂蜜的甜感。 (342 views)
Tasted by dbkitc on 7/7/2023 & rated 97 points: Forgot I had a case of this - glad I found it. What a super bottle and in pristine shape (which is nice after my mixed results recently with the ‘08’s). One of the best wines of the year. Color shows just a hint of gold. The nose is stunning - honeysuckle, ocean breeze and oyster shells play with a smidge of lime zest. Classic. The palate is out of bounds good - rich yet a mineral supreme. So long. Explosive. I love this. (97) (1009 views)
Tasted by Peter Spijker on 6/12/2023 flawed bottle: Oxidized (although not completely dead). (846 views)
Tasted by liber on 5/22/2023 & rated 94 points: 5th of 12, pnp, perfect level, half soaked cork, following usual Dauvissat Clos pattern after 12 years or so of losing fat in favour of focussed minerality in addition to excellent salinity, impressive weight of material for Chablis with nice floral touches, fruit however in retreat on this showing but may well re-emerge when fully mature, some upside, 8+ years. F+ (18). (982 views)
Tasted by MJReb on 12/23/2022 & rated 94 points: On the first sip the wine is not really open but powerful and long. With aeration there is sea breeze, white pepper and some floral stuff along with white orchard fruit. The wine has an impressive power, the aromatic side is not yet fully developed. (1229 views)
Tasted by oxidatif on 12/12/2022 flawed bottle: Honey! Like the nose is straight up beeswax and cardboard. White flowers and more beeswax, actually med- acid, all about the decaying fruit. feels like it’s more oxidative than it should be at this stage, and not in a good way. There were six of us and we did not finish the bottle (1176 views)
Tasted by premiercru1973 on 10/29/2022 & rated 96 points: Pop and pour. Absolutely stunning! Sexy, smooth and wonderfully harmonious. Salinity, minerality and acidity is there as it should but in a very well rounded version. A little bit subdued at first but after a mere 30 minutes it really opened and performed perfectly. (1041 views)
Tasted by PC99 on 9/21/2022 & rated 92 points: Lemon, citrus, green apple. A bit of mineral. Start to open in 30 mins. (1153 views)
Tasted by liber on 7/22/2022 & rated 95 points: 4th of 12, opened 30 minutes, perfect cork and level, lovely, excellent salinity, muted minerality but too fat, as yet, for Chablis, needs more time. On potential VF (18.5). (1391 views)
Tasted by chablis28 on 7/1/2022 & rated 93 points: My 3rd and final '09 and a very good follow up to a killer btl 3yrs & 3 months previously in March 2019. The color has deepened and I get the sense I opened this 3rd & final btl not a minute too soon. This was still excellent with no obvious pre-mox but the 2019 btl was a lighter color and the best of my 3. Tonight's btl delivered outstanding minerality, salinity and citrus but lacked some the still youthful buoyancy of the stellar btl opened in 2019. This btl still rocked in a fully mature way but, I preferred the btl opened in 2019 93+ (1453 views)
Tasted by liber on 12/29/2021 & rated 95 points: 3rd of 12, opened 30 minutes, perfect cork and level - still tightening nicely turning into a well chisselled Chablis of great typicity (if still marginally on the fat side) and GC weight, excellent intensity and drive to fruit, upside yet, 10+ years. VF (18.5). (1757 views)
Tasted by Burgundy Al on 9/8/2021 flawed bottle: Burgundy Dinner with Friends (The Bristol - Chicago IL): Popped-and-poured. In disappointing Dauvissat 2009 flight. Slightly corked. (2494 views)
Tasted by cardsandwine on 4/21/2021: Beautiful wine that has added depth and complexity over the past 7 years. (2196 views)
Tasted by lepetitchateau on 3/27/2021 flawed bottle: Oxidation marred & shortened this wine. (2033 views)
Tasted by CJM on 11/5/2020 & rated 88 points: Clear pale straw. Lemongrass, pear, peach. Low acids, no tannins. Lime. Short balanced finish. Cuivinet at granita. (2194 views)
Tasted by dagij on 10/18/2020 & rated 91 points: It is with awe one opens a bottle like this, making the probablity of disappointment high. And this disappoints even though it is a very good wine. I just expected more, but perhaps it was opened some years too soon. Still young colour with hints of green. At first (the wine was not decanted) the nose is muted, after an hour or so it opens up to display tones of lime, green apples, wet/crushed stone, and a tone reminiscent of olive stones (a slight bitterness and dryness). Full bodied attack, high acidity, but also sweet appley fruit. Fruit through the whole taste curve, and an extremely mineral finish with lots of chalk and sea-salt tones. Long, very long. This is probably a better wine than the score indicates, but I wonder when these wines are going to be mature? Hey!, this is 2009, a warm, open vintage. If this is so closed at more than ten years of age, how are more classic vintages? Drunk together with Droin les Clos 2012 and Guy Robin les Clos 2015, and Droin clearly stole the show. (1945 views)
Tasted by liber on 8/11/2020 & rated 95 points: 2nd of 12, opened 30 minutes, perfect cork and level. tightening nicely and shedding sweetness as predicted in Jan 19 note, going through an almost too acidic phase whilst starting to show classy and classic Chablis minerality and salinity, excellent underlying GC weight, not in least bit blowsy, lovely if not yet really ready, balance and energy for long life, ie 15 years plus. VF (18.5). (1973 views)
Tasted by aquacongas on 7/13/2020 & rated 93 points: blind
Sharp acidity but not annoying. Almost no fruit but lime. Lovely and refreshing acidity. 93 (2011 views)
Tasted by Sundbyberg on 1/10/2020 & rated 92 points: Typical Chablis with chalk etc Nice but not very exciting. (2550 views)
Tasted by hajoha on 12/4/2019 & rated 91 points: Vincent Dauvissat Les Clos 2009.
Fått ei litta time i karaffel, men denne trenger faktisk mer tid.
(2357 views)
Tasted by rlove on 11/2/2019 & rated 93 points: You see the solar vintage influence here but this is mostly classic aged Dauvissat with lemon curd, wild flower, and algae. Medium weight, balanced acidity, saline finish with honey. Very good. Drink now through 2030. (2129 views)
Tasted by dcwino on 10/18/2019 & rated 95 points: Annual Chicago winos visit - Champagne, White Burg, DRC, La La and SQN (Officina - Washington D.C.): Very focused “Dauvissat” nose displaying lemon curd, lemon oil, granny smith, a hint of pineapple expressing the vintage ripeness, honey, beeswax, oyster shell and crushed rocks. Excellent concentration, nicely layered dense yellow fruit, rich yet very precise and focused, bright acidity and strong wet stone mineral and a long rich yellow fruit and mineral driven finish. This is a classic Dauvissat Clos. Based on my examples going back to 2011, no sign of premox. (2898 views)
Tasted by Burgundy Al on 10/18/2019 & rated 91 points: DC/Chicago Wine Dinner Extravaganza (Officina - Wasington, DC): Powerful apple aromas and flavors with a way richness and good concentration. More "2009" to me than classically Chablis, this was good but slightly lacking the nuanced complexity of great Grand Cru Chablis. Similar to another bottle from last year, neither of which were as good as bottles from when this wine was younger. (2540 views)

Les Clos

Chablis Grand Cru Les Clos exact outline

Les Clos is arguably the finest grand cru vineyard. Les Clos has greater density and power than the more elegant Vaudésir It is a deep and compact wine. The strong mineral core is of polished steel and this is enveloped in a luscious depth of fruit. If Vaudésir is the queen of the grand crus, Les Clos is the king. It ages wonderfully – a minimum of 10 years. It’s a large sunny vineyard, (28.39 hectares) facing south. It is quite rocky and has a higher level of limestone.

It is also a vineyard in Bussières

Burgundy

Les vins de Bourgogne (Bureau interprofessionnel des vins de Bourgogne) (and in English)

Burgundy - The province of eastern France, famous for its red wines produced from Pinot Noir and its whites produced from Chardonnay. (Small of amounts of Gamay and Aligoté are still grown, although these have to be labeled differently.) The most famous part of the region is known as the Cote d'Or (the Golden Slope). It is divided into the Cote de Beaune, south of the town of Beaune (famous principally for its whites), and the Cote de Nuits, North of Beaune (home of the most famous reds). In addition, the Cote Chalonnaise and the Maconnais are important wine growing regions, although historically a clear level (or more) below the Cote d'Or. Also included by some are the regions of Chablis and Auxerrois, farther north.

# 2013 Vintage Notes:
* "2013 is a vintage that 20 years ago would have been a disaster." - Will Lyons
* "low yields and highly variable reds, much better whites." - Bill Nanson
* "Virtually all wines were chaptalised, with a bit of sugar added before fermentation to increase the final alcohol level." - Jancis Robinson

# 2014 Vintage Notes:
"We have not had such splendid harvest weather for many years. This will ensure high quality (fragrant, classy and succulent are words already being used) across the board, up and down the hierarchy and well as consistently from south to north geographically apart from those vineyards ravaged by the hail at the end of June." - Clive Coates

# 2015 Vintage Notes:
"Low yields and warm weather allowed for ample ripeness, small berries and an early harvest. Quality is looking extremely fine, with some people whispering comparisons with the outstanding 2005 vintage. Acid levels in individual wines may be crucial." - Jancis Robinson

# 2017 Vintage Notes:
"Chablis suffered greatly from frost in 2017, resulting in very reduced volumes. As ever, the irony seems to be that what remains is very good quality, as it is in the Côte d’Or. Cooler nights across the region have resulted in higher-than-usual acidity, with good conditions throughout the harvest season allowing for ripe, healthy fruit." - Jancis Robinson

# 2018 Vintage Notes:
"The most successful region for red Burgundy in 2018 was the Côte de Beaune. The weather was ideal in this area, with just enough sunlight and rain to produce perfectly balanced wines naturally." - Vinfolio

Chablis

Chablis (Fédération de Défense de l'Appellation Chablis) | Chablis (Burgundy Wines)

2014 Vintage Notes:
"... a hybrid of 2004/2007 and 2010. The stone, citrus and limestone amalgam is exactly what we search for in Chablis as the style harkens to a day in the Cote de Beaune proper (1960's - 1980's) when wine was not meant to be consumed the week it was released, battonage was not used by all and new oak was rarely seen ... the texture is natural and 'of the vintage' not 'of the winemaker' .... Like Sancerre or the Loire in general, 2014 in Chablis is one of those rare years with extract and transparency. It appears to be a vintage for the "neoclassic" ages and those of us intent on cellaring the most terroir-driven (but still powerful) examples of vineyard, site-place and varietal will want to invest (heavily) in the magnetic and electric 2014's." - Jon Rimmerman

2018 Vintage Notes:
"There’s not that razor sharp Chablis acidity in 2018,” says Patrick Piuze. “But there is good definition of place. The dry conditions drove vines to drink deeper down in the soil profile."
