It is holding up well at the ten year mark. Dark fruit on the nose, the palate was dark berries, a hint of cherry and some spice. Finish was of moderate length. (1491 views) | | Tasted by markcic on 12/28/2014 & rated 88 points: We PNP'd, dark fruit on the nose, the palate was a lot of fruit with a hint of spice. A nice finish. Some of my guests preferred this to the Pax Syrah that followed. (3334 views) | | Tasted by 1961Vintage on 11/15/2014 & rated 92 points: Just go right to day two. Rich and supple. (3160 views) | | Tasted by 1961Vintage on 10/19/2014 & rated 80 points: OK, so now I'm much less impressed. Perhaps inconsistency is normal? This bottle was hot off the mark and never settled down. In fact, too "hot" to even get any legit fruit notes. Hope my next bottle is more like my first. (3154 views) | | Tasted by tblain1 on 1/26/2013 & rated 82 points: I tasted a few bottles and im a bit disappointed. It tasted dry, thin, and steely; nit what I expect from a Santa Rita syrah. Not horrible, but not wgatreally i expected. I have a few more bottles but not really thrilled about them. (5168 views) | | Tasted by 1961Vintage on 12/20/2012 & rated 93 points: I'm singing, or is it the wine. just fantastic combination of dark red fruits, acidity and finish. Did I mention all for less than 20 bucks? (4383 views) | | Tasted by Rudderowb on 12/9/2012 & rated 90 points: The more time the better, similar to previous reviews. (2977 views) | | Tasted by Timo944 on 10/13/2012: Ditto previous remarks, I did not decant or let breathe and it was very strong and sour. Afternonenday much better. (3243 views) | | Tasted by Rudderowb on 7/26/2012 & rated 91 points: DEFINITELY let this one breathe. Six hours did wonders to the finish, toning down the strong pepper and big punch. Wonderfully long finish throughout, great value. (3514 views) | | Tasted by vatausae on 7/6/2012 & rated 90 points: Time is very kind to this wine. Drinking much better on day 3 than at first. Initially it was very harsh with sharp almost sour dark fruits. It has smoothed out greatly now - much rounder with some mild spice on the back. (2239 views) | | Tasted by markcic on 6/9/2012 & rated 91 points: my favorite of the evening - a three hour decant brough out a nice nose, spicy fruits on the palate, lont finish - went great with the roasted lamb (2036 views) | | Tasted by snowbear on 5/19/2012: To Paul and Scott (2101 views) | | Tasted by snowbear on 2/10/2012 & rated 92 points: - Brick color. Producer 2016 vintage notesSyrah Varietal article (Wikipedia) | (Wines Northwest)
Note that some producers in the Northern Rhone distinguish between simply Syrah and "Serine", the latter described as ‘an ancient clone of Syrah, the berries of which are more oval-shaped and less deeply pigmented than Syrah’ by producer Tardieu-Laurent. USAAmerican wine has been produced since the 1500s, with the first widespread production beginning in New Mexico in 1628. Today, wine production is undertaken in all fifty states, with California producing 84% of all U.S. wine. The continent of North America is home to several native species of grape, including Vitis labrusca, Vitis riparia, Vitis rotundifolia, and Vitis vulpina, but the wine-making industry is based almost entirely on the cultivation of the European Vitis vinifera, which was introduced by European settlers. With more than 1,100,000 acres (4,500 km2) under vine, the United States is the fourth-largest wine producing country in the world, after Italy, Spain, and France.California2021 vintage: "Unlike almost all other areas of the state, the Russian River Valley had higher than normal crops in 2021, which has made for a wine of greater generosity and fruit forwardness than some of its stablemates." - Morgan Twain-Peterson Central Coasthttp://www.ccwinegrowers.org/links.html
