Tasted by isaacjamesbaker on 5/15/2016 & rated 87 points: Fun stuff, but not as good as I remember the wine from about three years ago. Still structured but seems a bit flabby. Delicious baked black fruit pies, earth, sweet spice. Crowd-pleasing stuff that we drank with some birthday cake. (710 views)
Tasted by isaacjamesbaker on 3/14/2013 & rated 91 points: What a unique wine: a dessert syrah from Puglia. I had to have it. Aromatically this is awesome: sweet blackberries, raspberry tart, fig paste and a mineral-rocky aroma. Notes of olive and raisins came out with time. On the palate, sweet fruit, but still tart, reminiscent of wild blueberry, blackberry and currant fruit. The tannins are firm and the acid is surprisingly fresh, making this balanced and effortlessly enjoyable. Lots of secondary earthy, herbal and tar flavors, but that’s also mixed with raisins, caramel and fig paste. A bit of smoke lingers onto the finish, which is long and balanced. One of the most unique dessert wines I’ve had in a very long time. Absolutely delicious. (1452 views)

Alberto Longo

Producer website

(via http://www.leaandsandeman.co.uk/wine-producer/Alberto-Longo-1068-04.html ):
Founded by Alberto Longo, a consultant for KPMG, this thirty five hectare estate is in Lucera, Apulia, and only released their first wines onto the market in 2005. Concentrating mainly on the indigenous varietals, Nero di Troia, Negromarao and Montepulciano, the wines have rapidly gained recognition as being the best of the region. The wines are made by oenologist Graziana Grassini, a pupil of Giaccomo Tachis, and well known to us for her tremendous efforts at Fattoria di Magliano in Tuscany. Her signature of expressive fruit, allowing the 'terroir' to show through, is evident in all of these wines, and while they have the ripeness of wines from the south, they are all marked by crisp and fresh acidity.

Syrah

Varietal article (Wikipedia) | (Wines Northwest)

Note that some producers in the Northern Rhone distinguish between simply Syrah and "Serine", the latter described as ‘an ancient clone of Syrah, the berries of which are more oval-shaped and less deeply pigmented than Syrah’ by producer Tardieu-Laurent.
