Ruby in color, medium tannins with Raspberry flavors. I decanted the bottle and the flavor got much better, deeper, over time. (1090 views) | | Tasted by isaacjamesbaker on 3/26/2015 & rated 89 points: Medium ruby color. Time needed to open up and coax out notes of red currants, wild raspberries, red apple peel, some caramel and sweet baking spices get more expressive with time. Full bodied and bold at 15.2% alcohol. Still quite firm on the tannins, medium-low acid. Flavors of blackberry cobbler, red currants, plum skins. Toast, mocha and cedar shavings mix with some earthy, forest floor and roasted coffee notes. Opens up a lot to show more subtle and complex fruit, and those earthy spice really come out, especially on the second day: rosemary, thyme, black pepper. A deep, lingering finish. A higher octane wine at first, much prettier and silkier on day two. 42% Cabernet Sauvignon, 25% Merlot, 18% Malbec, 10% Petite Verdot and 5% Cabernet Franc. (1740 views) | | Tasted by Sijan on 5/12/2013 & rated 90 points: This is really a lovely, well-made Virginia red wine - full-bodied with good dark fruit, mild oak, mild tannins. Well-balanced. Beginning to develop more secondary flavors. (2016 views) | | Tasted by TheBigD52 on 2/22/2012: Red dark color, nice berry taste, and berry nose. Good Virginia wine. | Breaux Vineyards Producer websiteRed Bordeaux BlendRed Bordeaux is generally made from a blend of grapes. Permitted grapes are Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Merlot, Petit Verdot, Malbec and rarely Carménère.Today Carménère is rarely used, with Château Clerc Milon, a fifth growth Bordeaux, being one of the few to still retain Carménère vines. As of July 2019, Bordeaux wineries authorized the use of four new red grapes to combat temperature increases in Bordeaux. These newly approved grapes are Marselan, Touriga Nacional, Castets, and Arinarnoa.
Wineries all over the world aspire to making wines in a Bordeaux style. In 1988, a group of American vintners formed The Meritage Association to identify wines made in this way. Although most Meritage wines come from California, there are members of the Meritage Association in 18 states and five other countries, including Argentina, Australia, Canada, Israel, and Mexico.Meritage The Meritage Association
What Is Meritage? In 1988, a group of American vintners formed The Meritage Association to identify hand-crafted wines blended from the traditional "noble" Bordeaux varietals including: Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc, and Petit Verdot and Malbec or Sauvignon Blanc, Semillon, and Sauvignon Vert."Meritage," pronounced like "heritage," was selected from more than 6,000 entries in an international contest to name the new wine category. Meritage is an invented word that combines "merit" and "heritage" - reflecting the spirit of members of The Meritage Association. Meritage® is a registered trademark of The Meritage Association. Who's Legal?http://www.meritagewine.org/new_members.htmlUSAAmerican wine has been produced since the 1500s, with the first widespread production beginning in New Mexico in 1628. Today, wine production is undertaken in all fifty states, with California producing 84% of all U.S. wine. The continent of North America is home to several native species of grape, including Vitis labrusca, Vitis riparia, Vitis rotundifolia, and Vitis vulpina, but the wine-making industry is based almost entirely on the cultivation of the European Vitis vinifera, which was introduced by European settlers. With more than 1,100,000 acres (4,500 km2) under vine, the United States is the fourth-largest wine producing country in the world, after Italy, Spain, and France.Virginia Virginia Wines (Virginia Wineries Association) |
