Community Tasting History

Community Tasting Notes (average 90.9 pts. and median of 91 pts. in 57 notes) - hiding notes with no text

Tasted by Ardross on 9/25/2021 & rated 87 points: Gold on opening - a strange bouquet of toffee yoghurt . Warming up there are notes of butter, spice and lemon that one might hope but definitely premox like elements - that said very drinkable but not a patch in the dazzling 2000 (313 views)
Tasted by La Grappe on 4/12/2021 & rated 92 points: A fairly deep yellow colour; ripe, peachy fruit, with a touch of mango; quite full, nicely rounded and long. Probably at its peak now. (562 views)
Tasted by Goldstone on 3/29/2021 & rated 93 points: My Birthday Dinner (Grill Room, Hong Kong Country Club, Shouson Hill, Hong Kong): Light yellow gold. Nose is white french chalk from bicycle inner tubes then light, lifted citrus. Palate is citrusy but also honeyed and with increasing depth. Melon comes out with extended time.... really rounded and gorgeous. Soft peach on the long finish. Still very youthful. Paired beautifully with the raw scallops and kohlrabi dish. 93+ but could have gone higher (I scored it 95 last month). (745 views)
Tasted by Goldstone on 2/12/2021 & rated 95 points: Chú Xī (除夕) Dinner at Home for Chinese New Year (Our House, Hong Kong): Opened and drank over a traditional home-cooked Cantonese New Year dinner at home with friends. Light yellow gold with a fresh brightness. On the palate, it is very fresh, zingy and young...lemons and oyster shells, no bass notes. Impressive for such a hot year. Really lovely....so lovely that it didn't need many words to describe it. My first of a case bought on release. (825 views)
Tasted by NJwineguy on 12/10/2020 & rated 90 points: One bottle completely undrinkable.

The other pretty. Nice. Decent acidity with reduction. (716 views)
Tasted by ptwu on 10/3/2020 & rated 92 points: Not oxidized! Nice length. Had bad luck with many leflaives so perhaps overly enthused. (686 views)
Tasted by SimonG on 8/20/2020 & rated 89 points: Mid straw. Fresh. Reasonably weighty, certainly 1er cru in weight and viscosity, but rather stolid and foresquare on the palate lacking complexity and flair in the same way previous bottles have. Not what I look for in Puligny. That said, decent enough with food and this bottle at least had the good grace not to oxidise over the three evenings it was open. *** (735 views)
Tasted by armins.rusis@gmail.com on 7/14/2020 & rated 92 points: Golden color with full bodied weight. As it warmed up, lemons, citrus was evident. Buttery on the palate. Drink now. (654 views)
Tasted by La Grappe on 3/25/2020 & rated 92 points: Straw colour; quite full on the palate, with peach and hazelnut; a little reticent at first, but opened up to give quite an elegant but concentrated wine. This is developing nicely, with no suggestion of oxidation. (761 views)
Tasted by rikipedia on 3/23/2020 & rated 93 points: Deep gold
Plenty of evolved notes on the nose: softened chalk, wet river stones, mineral, ripe stone fruits, peaches in light syrup and a smear of vanilla.
A fabulous line of bright acidity on entry followed by a richness broadening out the mid-palate. There is a roundness from the riper 2009 vintage that generally I am personally not so keen on, but this seemed to work so well, giving great harmony in the component parts that all gelled to provide a top-notch Puligny.
Flavours of mineral, stone, toast, vanilla and stone fruits, all concentrated with excellent depth of flavour and a long farewell. (168 views)
Tasted by Ardross on 2/29/2020 & rated 87 points: Rather disjointed and unbalanced for this wine rather lacking in acidity a little more gold in colour than one would like to see. (687 views)
Tasted by GTFreek on 5/13/2019: These notes aren't doing this wine justice. Maybe I haven't had enough 1er Cru Puligny. Rich style showing development but plenty of fruit. Tropical banana peel, bruised golden apple, opulent nutty tones, dried spices, hint of lanolin, lemon cleaner, apricot pith, maybe a mushroom or earth showing it's age. Structure isn't perfect with alcohol and phenolics ahead of the moderate acidity, so a little fat (warm year). Very interesting, in a good place, drink now. (1158 views)
Tasted by hprphf on 3/2/2019 & rated 91 points: Acker 2019/03 (Marea): Decently made with pure florals and ripe fruit. Nice weight and concentration. 91 (1360 views)
Tasted by steinersing on 2/2/2019 & rated 86 points: surprisingly little acidity here - vintage and plot make for a not so good combination (1494 views)
Tasted by SimonG on 9/8/2018 flawed bottle: Severely advanced. Sickly sweet alhehydic aromas and flavours. (1445 views)
Tasted by pghwino on 4/27/2018 & rated 100 points: Drank at Pierre Gagniare (1951 views)
Tasted by Alex G. on 4/3/2018: Impressive showing tonight, poise and polish with no premox whatsoever from 3 bottles in a row. Mineral finish is moderately long, won't be mistaken for GC but quite pleasant. Imagine there is little upside and it's quite tasty today so drink up. (1514 views)
Tasted by La Grappe on 2/8/2018 & rated 91 points: Medium yellow/lemon colour; full, ripe, slightly exotic, nutty, opulent; fully ready but still fresh and lively, and not a hint of oxidation. A fine white burgundy. (1375 views)
Tasted by MarcelloW on 1/16/2018: Drunk twice lately...it was well stored, but definitely over the hill now....disappointing.... (1757 views)
Tasted by Montecalvo on 12/9/2017 & rated 89 points: Not dead but I wouldn't wait another month. There was a brief background note of oxidation. (1448 views)
Tasted by Montecalvo on 11/18/2017: dead. premoxed (1166 views)
Tasted by NJwineguy on 11/18/2017 & rated 89 points: Medium reduction. Overall nice. (1119 views)
Tasted by rwpalmer on 10/1/2017 & rated 90 points: This bottle was neither youthful nor old, without necessarily gaining much in the way of mid-life complexity. Still quite an impressive white burgundy with some intensity and interesting flavours and an impression of modest elegance. Not the structure for keeping though... (1274 views)
Tasted by SimonG on 6/24/2017 & rated 90 points: Quite evolved. Mid gold with a slightly sickly sweet aroma on the nose that comes and goes. Ripe and full bodied. This is unsubtle. Worked quite well with food, but it lacks the elegance and line that one hopes for in Puligny. Still, although advanced it wasn't fully oxidised. ***1/2 (1678 views)
Tasted by Burgundy Al on 1/8/2017 & rated 91 points: Three Kings Day Celebration in Memory of Patrick Fegan (Chevalier Fine Wines - Chicago IL): Small glass from magnum, brief note. Very rich, ripe and forward with good concentration. Modest structure coming through right now, so I'd suggest best to enjoy over the next few years. (2612 views)

Burgundy

Les vins de Bourgogne (Bureau interprofessionnel des vins de Bourgogne) (and in English)

Burgundy - The province of eastern France, famous for its red wines produced from Pinot Noir and its whites produced from Chardonnay. (Small of amounts of Gamay and Aligoté are still grown, although these have to be labeled differently.) The most famous part of the region is known as the Cote d'Or (the Golden Slope). It is divided into the Cote de Beaune, south of the town of Beaune (famous principally for its whites), and the Cote de Nuits, North of Beaune (home of the most famous reds). In addition, the Cote Chalonnaise and the Maconnais are important wine growing regions, although historically a clear level (or more) below the Cote d'Or. Also included by some are the regions of Chablis and Auxerrois, farther north.

# 2013 Vintage Notes:
* "2013 is a vintage that 20 years ago would have been a disaster." - Will Lyons
* "low yields and highly variable reds, much better whites." - Bill Nanson
* "Virtually all wines were chaptalised, with a bit of sugar added before fermentation to increase the final alcohol level." - Jancis Robinson

# 2014 Vintage Notes:
"We have not had such splendid harvest weather for many years. This will ensure high quality (fragrant, classy and succulent are words already being used) across the board, up and down the hierarchy and well as consistently from south to north geographically apart from those vineyards ravaged by the hail at the end of June." - Clive Coates

# 2015 Vintage Notes:
"Low yields and warm weather allowed for ample ripeness, small berries and an early harvest. Quality is looking extremely fine, with some people whispering comparisons with the outstanding 2005 vintage. Acid levels in individual wines may be crucial." - Jancis Robinson

# 2017 Vintage Notes:
"Chablis suffered greatly from frost in 2017, resulting in very reduced volumes. As ever, the irony seems to be that what remains is very good quality, as it is in the Côte d’Or. Cooler nights across the region have resulted in higher-than-usual acidity, with good conditions throughout the harvest season allowing for ripe, healthy fruit." - Jancis Robinson

# 2018 Vintage Notes:
"The most successful region for red Burgundy in 2018 was the Côte de Beaune. The weather was ideal in this area, with just enough sunlight and rain to produce perfectly balanced wines naturally." - Vinfolio
