Light yellow. Intense and deep nose of sour yellow fruit (very pure and lemon like), dried flowers and some lightly nutty aromas. Shows great BdB elegance married to intensity and a clearly defined "96" acid. Also some Mesnil chalky minerality.
Nice yellow that doesn't reveal too much age. Delicious nose of motor oil, smoked fruit and intense minerality. In the mouth this is fat yet well-defined with good underlying acidity and the same delicious notes as the nose (the motor oil gradually blows off).
France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Bâtard-Montrachet Grand Cru
Light yellow. Incredible nose of dried licorice root, yellow fruit, vanilla, burned caramel and hints of gunpowder. This is very powerful yet seductive like only the greatest white grand cru burgs can be.
France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Richebourg Grand Cru
Muddy red - classic Leroy look. Spicy nose with soy, black tea and red berries. Seems a bit closed down but with great intensity and persistence. Drinks well but has even greater potential.
Maybe not at its very best anymore but still pretty incredible for a nearly 50 year old wine... dark red, intense nose of soy, currants, tar and pencil. Great marriage of elegance and structure.
Served together with the '61. This is darker is color and much more youthful but still recognizable in style. In many ways this tastes like '61 essence. Not bad at all even though it did have a few sharp corners.
Dark red. Dark and dense nose with christmas spices, dark cherries and tar. Very powerful in mouth with lots of structure, but also copious amounts of black fruit kept in check by underlying acidity and good spicyness.
