Introduction

Incredible event the “Benvenuto Brunello” premiere, showing 143 producers, with their Brunello 2006 and Brunello Riserva 2005 (But also with the others Montalcino's denominations: Rosso, S. Antimo and Moscadello). The event is becoming a "classic" appointment. A remark on the location: also if divided in two different places, and if sunday was “operators only”, with invitation, the locations were just too small, the crowd too much, with hundreds of “operators” just busy in drinking as much as they could and creating a very bad setting for people interested in tastings.
All samples are just released so, for sure, they will improve with time passed in bottle. Rating strictly refers to the tasted bottle in “not-so-conforting” conditions.
All wines showing similar colour characteristics (Nice crystalline ruby red, with orange-brick rim) and an alcoholic content between 13,5% and 14, 5%. Listing respects the tasting order.

Flight 1 - Brunello 2006 (25 Notes)

In commerce the 1st of Jan., 4 years after vintage. Minimum 2 years in oak casks.

Flight 2 - Brunello Riserva 2005 (5 Notes)

Closing

The 2006 vintage is accredited to be a memorable one and the tastings at the premiere seems to confirm a very good level, also if probably not exceptional. Many differences can be noted between zones. All the 2006 Brunello were, in general, better than the corresponding 2005 Riserva; and actually not many producer were presenting a 2005 vintage. Between the tasted samples, my personal gold medal goes to Ciacci e Mastrojanni!!
