After Blair and I, along with Drew's help, moved a bunch of our wine from our old storage place to Drew's fantastic new facility (13C Wine Storage), we were all thirsty and decided to rendezvous at my place to have a casual dinner and pull a few corks. When Drew and Blair each showed up with two bottles in hand, I knew it was going to be a good night. Turned out to be a Burgundy dominant evening (par for the course around here), but for me the wine of the night was Drew’s ’98 Clape.
2005 Domaine William Fèvre Chablis Grand Cru Les Preuses 92 Points
France, Burgundy, Chablis, Chablis Grand Cru
At first this was shy on the nose not giving up too much but after being opened for around an hour began to sing with classic Chablis notes of lemon, lime, salinity, stones and minerality. In the mouth this was medium bodied with good acidity with a crisp, fresh and sharp framework. Airy and delicate and not the typical succulent /round profile I usually find in Preuses. This is drinking so well right now but it’s clearly still very young and barring premox, this has 5+ years of great drinking ahead of it. Excellent. 92+

2001 Henri Boillot Meursault 1er Cru Les Poruzots 90 Points
France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Meursault 1er Cru
Medium yellow colour and a bit darker than it probably should be and the nose confirmed what the colour had indicated: this bottle was slightly advanced. Aromas of ripe apple, some honey and tropical notes but no sherry notes. While the nose wasn’t fresh, the palate certainly was with a rich and full mouthfeel backed by vibrant acidity. Blair commented this bottle was more advanced than his previous bottle and wasn’t as good either, but either way, this drink quite nicely and was far from shot. Excellent.

2009 Domaine De Belair Pouilly-Fumé 87 Points
France, Loire Valley, Upper Loire, Pouilly-Fumé
Tropical profile with notes of lychee and guava. This doesn’t have the acid that I would expect. Very tasty and enjoyable but just out classed by the previous two whites. Good.
