The Dallas 2nd Wednesday Group decided to get together last minute this month. Since the temperature here has been hitting the century mark regularly we decided to have a theme of "light, cold and white" for our July wine dinner. That naturally begged a venue like Caravelle in Richardson. Their Chinese and Vietnamese cuisine begs for the white wines of the Loire and Alsace. Our smallish group this month put up wall of nine wines, all of which showed well. Remarkable given the age of some. Here are the results:

Light yellow color in the glass, clear looking throughout with tiny steady beading. Nose of ash, matchstick and a hint of creme. Flavors of lemon zest, lime and a hint of minerals. Bright acidity, medium body. Drink now.

Light yellow color in the glass, clear looking throughout. Nose of grapefruit, ash and sea spray. Flavors of lemon, lime, a little grapefruit and some minerals. Bright acidity, light to medium body. Drink over the short term.

Light yellow to yellow color in the glass, clear looking throughout. Nose of paraffin, apricots, kumquat and talc. Flavors of apricots, kumquats and a hit of cherry on the medium finish. Medium to bright acidity, medium body. Drink or hold. I'd drink. Tasting pretty good right now.
