From magnum. Raspberry and wild strawberry aromas and flavors. Some (good) herbal tones as well. Great minerality and length on the palate. Very fresh and full of life. Delicious way to get the evening started.
Opened, immediately poured and followed over 30 minutes or so. Lemon and lime peel and juice on the nose with crushed stone and lighter floral. The same lemon and lime come through on the palate as well. Has put a little weight from what I previously remember, but still has a firm mineral core to it and great acidity. Lengthy finish. When I went back to the last half glass left in the bottle about 5 hours later, it had fattened up quite a bit and was fairly lush with no hard edges whatsoever. A delicious wine.
France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Vosne-Romanée 1er Cru
Opened roughly 3 hours before serving, 2 of which were in a decanter. Sappy red and black cherry and berry fruit on the nose and palate with a healthy dose of crushed rocks. A great mix of brown spices with a bit of firm earth and slightly darker floral notes. Medium bodied with a very long finish where the fine minerality surfaces again. I'm sure this has a long life ahead of it, but no harm in checking in now. This has really come together nicely since the last time I had it shortly after release, and I really look forward to watching it evolve over the years. Fantastic!
France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Bonnes Mares Grand Cru
Opened roughly 6 hours in advance, 4 of which were in a decanter. Served alongside the 07 Vogue Bonnes Mares. A mix of red and blue berry fruit on the nose with crushed stone, purple flowers and an alluring mix of Asian and brown spices. The same fruit comes through on the somewhat firm palate. Medium body with a long, mineral driven finish. Overall much more reserved than the Vogue, but both have a fairly long life ahead. Decanting is essential for both of these wines right now.
France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Bonnes Mares Grand Cru
Opened roughly 6 hours in advance, 4 of which were in a decanter. Served alongside the 07 Roumier Bonnes Mares. Sappy red, blue and black cherry and berry fruit on the nose and palate. There is quite a bit of mineral structure remaining here, but the wine was still fairly giving with the extended decant. A nice mix of earth with brown spices. Medium bodied with a long finish. Nice cleansing acidity. Overall, more giving than the Roumier at this stage, but both have long lives ahead. Decanting is essential right now.
375ml. Very ripe apricot and peach on the nose and palate. Burnt sugar and orange peel. A touch of fig and vanilla too. Great richness on the palate, but with enough acidity to keep it all in check. Certainly showing maturity, but no rush to drink through it, especially in larger formats. A great d'Yquem!
