Very dark core with purple rim; cocoa, vanilla, dark fruit, smoke, dark chocolate; rich on palate, tobacco, cocoa, good structure, long finish with cassis lingering; still very youthful but much more drinkable than most '05 Right Banks I've had.
Dark crimson; classic Bordeaux nose, damp earth, red currant, Cab based, stank, tobacco; softened tannin, still good structure, sweet and resolved; really tasty and drinking well; I was surprised by the age; you could almost overlook how good this was by its softness and drinkability; 92+.
Italy, Tuscany, Montalcino, Brunello di Montalcino
Dark crimson almost to rim; sweet red fruit, slight candy, berry, burnt sugar; smooth, no graininess, spice; the best '03 BdM I've had showing great balance with the ripeness; 91+.
Dark purple with bright purple rim; dark fruit, dark berry, bramble, a bit of sulfur, tar; fresh, plump and soft texture, good richness, could not taste the American oak; delicious and very drinkable, 90+.
Very dark purple to rim; purple fruit, cement, violets, a little vanilla, sweet, slight candy; higher alcohol, smooth texture, cassis, plummy, soft, cedar, juicy and fresh; well made.
France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Nuits St. Georges
Rose, pink rim; tart, rose, candied, green underneath, cranberry, strawberry, rhubarb, fruit roll-up candy, with air the minerality really came out to the forefront and the sweetness subsided, white rocky limestone; tart fruit on the palate with some herbaceous undertones, sweet and youthful, soft tannin but very tightly wound, razor sharp minerality and acidity; love it; 92+; would like to see this in 7 years.
2007 Les Cailloux (Lucien et André Brunel) Châteauneuf-du-Pape Cuvée Centenaire Flawed
France, Rhône, Southern Rhône, Châteauneuf-du-Pape
A poor example of my favorite CdP bottling. I believe it was cooked and slightly oxidized.
