A lovely lineup with all the winemakers from Italy, France, Germany, and Spain. It was particularly fun to meet and chat with Arianna Occhipinti, who said she accepts visitors at the winery. I'm planning a visit to Sicily next year, so it'll be great to plan a visit with her. The other huge standout was the Radikon wine. I need to explore these more...
2011 Immich-Batterieberg Riesling Escheburg 86 Points
Germany, Mosel Saar Ruwer
No pradikat wines here, but this is somewhere between Spatlese and Auslese in must weight. It's their second wine below the grand cru, and has around 4 g/l RS. Very strong stony minerality notes on the nose. Invigorating lemon. Great purity of aromas. Fantastic. Thick body, but pretty lean flavors offering not much richness and pretty light acid. Really mellow and slightly chunky metallic notes. Similar on the finish... considering how wonderful that nose was, this fell remarkably flat on the finish.

2012 Weingut Knebel Riesling Von den Terrassen 88 Points
Germany, Mosel Saar Ruwer
This is a blend of various terraced vineyards. Pretty floral aromas, with some sweetness of lemon. Nice rich body, with nice creaminess. Some lemon meringue flavors, coupled with minerality and metallic notes. Slight sweetness. Good leanness on the finish that lingers well, with a sweet notion. Not overtly complex, but decent stuff.

2010 Weingut Knebel Winninger Röttgen Riesling 86 Points
Germany, Mosel Saar Ruwer
Very very light aromas... the palate is creamy, showing some minerals and a cantaloupe melon rind. Stony and chunky fruit. Deep mineral laced finish that lingers a long time. Good impact after swallowing, with mild acid, but just too light on the palate and nose.

2011 Weingut Clemens Busch Riesling trocken Vom Grauen Schiefer 86 Points
Germany, Mosel Saar Ruwer
6 g/l RS. Quite lean aromas... revealing nothing. Nice and smooth body with light metallic notes. Mineral laced finished with sour lemon and tart notes lingering. Fairly straight forward.

2011 Weingut Clemens Busch Marienburg Riesling Großes Gewächs 90 Points
Germany, Mosel Saar Ruwer
Heavy, thick aromas that offer depth, but perhaps not too much complexity. Really nice palate entry, showing melon rind, flinty minerals, and impressive body. Heavy finish, with lingering notes of apple and tartness. Quite pretty, with nice balance of minerality and just a hint of metalllic notes. Nice impact to this one.

2010 Koehler-Ruprecht Kallstadter Riesling Kabinett trocken 89 Points
Germany, Pfalz
Rich aromas compared to the preceding wines, offering a more forward impression of sweetness. Quite nice. Again forward and more obvious on the palate, but in a good way. Getting a bit of funk and nice candied cantaloupe. Nice funky tartness on the finish.

2012 Domaine Luneau-Papin Muscadet de Sèvre-et-Maine sur lie Vieilles Vignes Clos des Allées 90 Points
France, Loire Valley, Pays Nantais, Muscadet de Sèvre-et-Maine sur lie
Very creamy aromas. It's overall lean in impression, but nice. Nice body and texture; lovely. Great balance and harmony, with nice minerals and lemon. Really great dial up of volume and acid on the finish. A lovely, complete wine.

1995 Domaine Luneau-Papin Muscadet de Sèvre-et-Maine sur lie "L" d’Or 91 Points
France, Loire Valley, Pays Nantais, Muscadet de Sèvre-et-Maine sur lie
Smells like a hard cheese rind. Really rich and fantastic. Again, rich and thick on the palate, with some prominent minerality but lots of melon as well. Thick and rich. Slightly muted upon swallowing, but then slowly the volume turns up as it builds complexity with a rich covering of acidity. Nice.

2010 Radikon Pinot Grigio 93 Points
Italy, Friuli-Venezia Giulia, Venezia Giulia IGT
Fantastic dark orange color. Smells like a burning rubber ball. Incredibly deep and complex. Very compelling. Maybe it also smells like burning Skittles candy, as there's a sweet funky fruit there, too. Very penetrating notes. Thick body and incredible richness, with a wild streak for sure. So deep, with more funky fermenting burning skittles. Tons of acid throughout. A wallop of strawberries on the finish and tons of acid. I love that acidic strawberry flavor. Ridiculous changes and evolution on the finish. Tastes like orange marmalade. Of course not everyone's cup of tea, but boy is it mine. 92-93, leaning to the 93. This is so good because it's so interesting. I wonder if I'd score it lower if I got used to it.

2011 Puzelat-Bonhomme KO In Côt We Trust 90 Points
France, Vin de France
Really fun wine! This smells like Indian curry spice and a meatball covered in dust. Lovely. Really nice palate, with fantastic sweet earthy berries. So vibrant. Incredibly drying on the finish. Totally drying... so puckering, though there is still nice richness. A really fun experience.

2006 Olga Raffault Chinon Les Picasses 90 Points
France, Loire Valley, Touraine, Chinon
Very thick and creamy aromas; thick and lush. Nice. Soft palate, offering mild, dusty cellar notes. Gritty with time in the mouth, and after 20 seconds that's all that's left (grittiness). Saline and mussels on the finish... like you put muscles and salt water in a blender and drank that. Totally weird, particularly for a red wine. Creamy notes and lush dirt. Good!

2011 Tami' Nero d'Avola 83 Points
Italy, Sicily, Sicilia
I really didn't care for this... though looking back, I really didn't care for the 2010 on release either, but after two years in bottle it came around. Maybe the same will occur here? The aromas are fine, smooth and soft. The palate is tart, mellow, and lean, with some meat flavors.s However, it's really pretty boring and non-descript. It tastes like grocery store wine. Unfortunately, the finish has this rotting fish component coming in that's incredibly off putting.

2011 Arianna Occhipinti Il Frappato 92 Points
Italy, Sicily, Terre Siciliane
Smells awesome... like a spiky green thing, whatever that means. Like eating a cactus? This is coupled with a nice strawberry aroma. I imagine a fruit roll up mixed with dirt. Lovely palate entry, with more sweet green notes, spicy tartness, and really alive fruit. Feels alive all throughout, like there's even a slight sweet yiesty note that I find very interesting. Awesome dial up of earthy fruit rollup on the finish. Spicy and lovely. I could put a straw in this one too. In the 91-92 range.

2012 Roagna Dolcetto d'Alba 88 Points
Italy, Piedmont, Alba, Dolcetto d'Alba
Soft and mellow, but at the same time, lovely; just what a Dolcetto should be. Palate entry is soft, with really nice fruit here; mellow and tart, with mild earthiness. Good tartness and lots of tannin. Wollop of tannin on the finish, with some barrel funk and some brett perhaps. Nice.

2005 Roagna Barolo La Pira 89 Points
Italy, Piedmont, Langhe, Barolo
Quite mellow, with some tartness. Nice aromas, but quiet. Very mellow on the palate; soft and closed, with light tartness. Again, closed on the finish. Tart and puckering. Interesting stuffing, but do not drink this now.

2011 Zélige-Caravent Ellipse 90 Points
France, Languedoc Roussillon, Languedoc, Pic St. Loup
Grenache, Carignane, and Cinsault, and very obviously a "natural" wine. This rocks. Aromas are funky as well. Lots of bacterial notes. Smells like an awesome Belgian beer. Soft palate, and quite a bit more tame than the nose hinted, offering nice tartness and smooth dark fruit, with some funk. More funk on the finish, with awesome acid lingering. Really lovely.

2010 Zélige-Caravent un poco agitato 91 Points
France, Languedoc Roussillon, Languedoc, Pic St. Loup
This smells awesome. Totally bizarre and funky on the nose, but hugely compelling. Rich and thick, and certainly full of bacterial notes. Really mellow on the palate, with an impressive soft texture and similar "alive" flavors. More funk on the finish, with a very lovely tartness integrated. A very fun wine.

2012 Olivier Rivière Rioja Idem 87 Points
Spain, La Rioja, La Rioja Alta, Rioja
Soft, mellow, and slightly funky aromas. Mellow flavors on a soft, slightly tart body, but this is a pretty darn generic, pedestrian wine, with no sense of Rioja. Soft and mellow on the finish too. A fine thing to consume, but not what I'd generally reach for.
