Racy but lush with an evolving flavor profile showing roasted peaches, golden delicious apples, ripe pear, honey and tropical fruits. It's flavorful enough to draw your attention but balanced with an acidic, dry, and uplifting backbone that makes it easy to sip endlessly.
As a big fan of Botani, I'm always looking for wines that might be similar, and this one delivers - crisp acidity, delicious flavors of key lime and granny smith apple with marzipan accents - nice subtle sweetness to the lengthy finish.
Italy, Marche, Verdicchio dei Castelli di Jesi Classico Superiore
Subtle but tart, with lemon and lime notes and a creamy texture. In the end, didn't hold my attention nearly as much as the other whites in the lineup.
Still a bruiser over a decade in, with a block of tannins that seemed to pick up power over the course of the night. Hold! Nice cherry and raspberry fruit profile with balsamic and tobacco notes.
Italy, Trentino Alto-Adige / Veneto, Vigneti delle Dolomiti IGT
Aromatic, balanced, and elegant, with a subtle sandalwood and rose petal nose and a structured palate of fine tannis, delicate acidity and crushed berry fruit flavors. A good wine to sip at the start of a meal.
France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Savigny-lès-Beaune
Biggest disappointment in the lineup and the cause for concern over spoilage or possibly a closed phase. Lean but firm with cherry and oak spice characteristics.
I continue to have success with 2007 Cali Cabs, and many of them, like this bottle, are relative bargains. Sleek and pure with a nice mix of currant, blackberry, and cedar - finished with an appealing loamy earthiness.
As frequently happens at parties, the Carlisle disappears faster than other wines and you lose the opportunity to study its development over time. Firm and structured, youngish, and a great value as always. Zesty wild berries on the entry palate with backend notes of fennel, wildflowers and cracked pepper.
I've been a Culler fan for years, but this might be the oldest Culler I've ever tasted and it might be in decline, but it still gave ample pleasure. Rich and savory with secondary characteristics of roasted herb, crushed rocks and tobacco on a still well-balanced frame.
Charming but maybe not as sophisticated as I would have expected (attributable to its youth, likely) - snappy berry flavor profile with spice and light cedar aromas and notes of cherry. Nevertheless, a crowd pleaser as is usually the case with R-M.
