Crimson core with orange red rim; medicinal red cherry, cedar, sandalwood, menthol, some orange, tight nose; stricter on the palate, firm tannin, dusty, roses, classic Nebbiolo, a hint of leather, medicinal with a tick of sweetness; good but needs a long decant to show that this is more than just entry level Barolo.
France, Rhône, Southern Rhône, Châteauneuf-du-Pape
Dark core with purple rim; lavender, raspberry, garrigue, pretty nose, floral, graham cracker, youthful and fresh, smells purple, aspirin, obviously balanced and so well built, could smell this for days!; very tart raspberry, soft initially then chalky tannin, still very pent up, youthful, bitter with even amount of sweet fruit, cough syrup, layered and deep; kind of a brute for Charvin, this will need serious aging, forget until at least 2020 then reassess at that time.
Dark garnet core with rose rim, semi-translucent; stank, leather, dark cherry meat, herbs, dried flowers, some sweetness and firing on all cylinders; sweet Sangio fruit, leather, dried flowers, some freshness in the middle; hard to imagine this drinking any better, delicious.
France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Gevrey-Chambertin
See through bright plum with lighter rim; great nose, seemingly lean at first showing some vegetation and sweet perfumed dark berry, nice sour cherry; seductive texture, finishes with great acidity, tart cherry, white rock; a lot more open and delicious than previous tasting; solid and could go for a while but I'd first like to see some mid-term cellaring of 5-8 years.
Dark crimson core with reddish orange rim; sour cherry, sandalwood, some funk, larger scaled, rose, very red fruit, almost Nebbiolo like on the nose; very tannic, sandy, Barolo like hard and tannic; not sure this wine will ever be described as elegant as it will be hard for the fruit to outlast the tannin.
A small tasting amongst friends celebrating LM's b-day. All were fantastic but the Parent was a bit of a let down as their wines can be overtly tannic and hard.
