Eric & Megan's - Chicago
Tasted Sunday, February 15, 2015 by tooch with 352 views
Thanks to Eric and Megan (and Winston, of course) for inviting us over for dinner. Megan prepared a great fish stew that was a perfect match for the Donnhoff and Selbach-Oster. A very fun night!

Note to self...do not volunteer to open this wine! The color is absolutely beautiful...a cloudy pinkish/purple...reminded me of what a Greyhound (the cocktail) looks like. Beautiful tones of grapefruit, peach, mango, and slate. Lots of energy on the palate created a really fun package.

2012 Domaine de la Pépière Muscadet de Sèvre-et-Maine Clisson 92 Points
France, Loire Valley, Pays Nantais, Muscadet de Sèvre-et-Maine
Intensely concentrated and bright citrus tones are at the center of this wine today. I decanted this about 2 hours before dinner and I think it might have helped some of the fresher floral elements to open up too. Great Clisson that'll be around for a long time.

2005 Nicolas Potel Criots-Bâtard-Montrachet 91 Points
France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Criots-Bâtard-Montrachet Grand Cru
A rich wine without being overly concentrated. Had some lush pear and apple tones with some deeper flinty notes in there too. Palate had nice balance with some background exotic tones of what felt like passion fruit or peach. Very nice.

2010 Brick House Gamay Noir Ribbon Ridge 90 Points

Lots to like here. Had an inviting perfume of fresh cranberries, earth, cherries, and soft floral notes. The palate was soft and supple with beautiful cranberry and earth tones. Lovely.

1996 Louis Jadot Nuits St. Georges 1er Cru Les Porrets 93 Points
France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Nuits St. Georges 1er Cru
Spectacular wine that delivers just about everything you could want from a 19-year old NSG. The red fruits were pure and clear with lush floral and earth accents in the background. The concentration of the fruit was impressive too and it felt like this is probably drinking close to peak.

2004 Dönnhoff Oberhäuser Brücke Riesling Spätlese 94 Points

Pop and pour. Just brilliant riesling that has depth, complex fruit/floral tones, and lots of mineral cut. Drinking in a really great spot right now and paired really nicely with a spicy fish stew.

Tightly woven flavors of peach, pear, apple, and minerals. Beautiful depth and richness to the flavors with a feathery weight. Delicious.

2010 Domaine Costal Chablis Les Truffières 89 Points
France, Burgundy, Chablis
A nice and inviting Chablis. Good, crisp, citrus tones...airy floral notes, and some chalky tones. Not incredibly deep, but very nice nonetheless.

1976 Domaine du Mas Blanc (Docteur Parcé) Banyuls Collita 88 Points
France, Languedoc Roussillon, Roussillon, Banyuls
I've never been overly fond of Banyuls, but this was pretty good. Had a strong mineral, fig, and plum tone throughout the palate. Definitely the most integrated Banyuls I've had, and definitely the oldest. Still not sure whether this is my style of wine or not.
