France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Meursault 1er Cru
Maturing, creamy texture with less minerality than expected. Lighter flavors and developing some secondary heavier characteristics. Somewhat faded after 30 minutes in the glass. Decent wine, not a particularly good Meursault Perrières.
Scary brown color. Lighter tobacco and subtle dark fruit notes. Older, front-heavy palate and a caramelized finish. Lighter-bodied and with a somewhat hard edge, but not without charm. Better than expected, and would probably be very acceptable with food.
Black cherry and assorted dark fruits and cedar notes. Somewhat hard tannins but softened fruit. Medium-bodied. Enjoyable, probably some room for improvement.
Dark fruit. An impression of sweetness to the palate. Large scaled, firm, and tannic. An out of place green, woody undercurrent in an otherwise very ripe wine. Young, may dry out in the long term.
Well resolved nose with some wood influence, dark red fruits, and yes...mint. Builds on the palate with a somewhat raw, chewy feel to the finish. Not really complete and may never fully round out, but a very nice wine.
Characteristic wood and green olive/tobacco notes. Astringent and woody mouthfeel. Medium body with some black and red fruits. Can probably last. Typical SO.
Really charming and classic nose - cassis, earth, and ripe dark fruits with some alcohol evident. Resolved, but somewhat light palate doesn't quite live up to the promise of the nose; still, a good enough wine.
Dark blackberry and meaty, floral Syrah notes. A big, exotic palate. Full and tannic. Chambord and blackberry with smoky meat notes. Tasty stuff with lots of character.
Chambord and mineral notes. Big, thick, spicy, Zinfindel-like fruit lacks any Cabernet character whatsoever. Possibly a bit cooked, otherwise a really terrible effort.
Dark fruits and tarry, animal fur notes. Tannic mineral-laden palate. Really wound up and hard, just not showing much. Not enjoyable at this stage, hold off.
France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Gevrey-Chambertin
Dark, brambly Pinot fruit with some heat evident. Tar and earth. Moves over time to more heavily spiced strawberry and anise notes. Heady and tannic. Enjoyable. Reminds me of Dugat Py.

2001 Domaine Pascal Cotat Sancerre Les Monts Damnés
France, Loire Valley, Upper Loire, Sancerre
Big, tart Sancerre. Lots of acid and without any real age showing. Asparagus and vegetal character, with bright citrus fruit. Enjoyable wine.

1989 Bodegas Muga Rioja Gran Reserva Prado Enea

Lots of wood and black fruits on the nose. Really woody and sour palate needs time. A wrapped-up feel to this. Drying structure. Hard to read.

2002 Turley Petite Syrah Hayne Vineyard

Ripe purple fruits and vanilla notes. Chambord palate, tannic and raw structure really clips the fruit off.

1996 Silver Oak Cabernet Sauvignon Napa Valley
USA, California, Napa Valley
Still fruity, though with a very raw astringency due to the over-applied wood. Fans of SO should enjoy this.
