Introduction

Opened a couple bottles after work on Friday.

Flight 1 (6 Notes)

  • 2013 Arianna Occhipinti Sicilia SP68 Bianco 90 Points

    Italy, Sicily, Sicilia

Nose is a dead ringer for a Northern Rhone viognier. Intense floral notes with some lemons and cereal notes. The palate was pretty much in line with what you'd expect from a Northern Rhone viognier too. Acid was low/medium, flavors were properly concentrated, and it had nice balance. If tasted blindly, I would have had 100% confidence that this was French!

Served blind. I exotic fruit on the nose; coconut, peach, cherry had me thinking White Bordeaux. Palate didn't have the weight or concentration to be White Bordeaux, so I was a bit stumped. When the bottle was revealed it all made sense, but in the moment I couldn't piece it all together. Great acidity and balance to the palate that only improved with air.

  • 2012 Domaine Roulot Meursault Les Luchets 92 Points

France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Meursault

Lots of flint, sulphur and lemons on the nose. Palate was deep, concentrated and focused. Great white burgundy to me comes with a sense of weightlessness to the palate combined with very concentrated fruits and this had all of that. I think this will get a lot better with time...the palate right now is very tight, and while you get all the stony minerality, you don't get the fruit concentration at this point. Give it time.

  • 2005 Domaine Henri Boillot Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru Clos de la Mouchère 90 Points

France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru

Super lush and concentrated. As Mark and Adrian noted, this was all about dense tropical fruits; peaches, pears, mangos, & cherry. 2005 is a fatter vintage in the CdB and that ripeness really comes through. Acidity was below average. Sadly, I'd say it's worth drinking these up.

  • 2012 Domaine G. Roumier / Christophe Roumier Chambolle-Musigny 91 Points

France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Chambolle-Musigny

The best two words to use to describe this wine are; purity, & youth. Lots of pure red fruits throughout; pomegranate, cherries, and cranberry. The fruit profile was cool and, at this point, pretty tightly wound. I tracked this wine over the next 24 hours and with air the tannins seemed to grow and become more prominent - but the good news is that, with time, I think the tannins and fruit will really come together into something special.

  • 2012 Arianna Occhipinti Il Frappato 91 Points

    Italy, Sicily, Terre Siciliane

Interesting aroma profile...maybe a blend of cherries, cranberries, earth, and veggies. The wine had a really nice, cool fruit profile to it. The fruit was incredibly energetic as it seemed that there might even be an electric current running through the wine. There's a lot going on in this wine and I think that with 5 years we could be faced with something even more enjoyable.
