Introduction

My wife first visited Ripple when she and I were dating in 2011. This was our first time back together since that first dinner (https://www.cellartracker.com/classic/event.asp?iEvent=14871) so it was nice to be back. Small dinner with a couple friends turned out really nicely. Wines were showing nicely and we enjoyed the food.

Flight 1 (6 Notes)

  • 2013 Egon Müller Scharzhofberger Riesling Kabinett 91 Points

    Germany, Mosel Saar Ruwer

At first, this was more reserved and quiet than I had anticipated. Don’t mistake my comments for anything negative, the wine was great, but the bubbly exotic fruit just wasn’t front and center like usual. With some air, flavors of peach, tart nectarines, tangerine, & lychee did emerge and it had nice balance and good depth.

  • 2013 Dauvissat-Camus Chablis Grand Cru Les Preuses 93 Points

France, Burgundy, Chablis, Chablis Grand Cru

Really, really, good Chablis. Great aromatics of saline, meyer lemon, and lime. Palate was deep and rich, but had nice balance. Lovely wine.

  • 2012 Jérôme Prévost La Closerie Fac-Simile 89 Points

    France, Champagne

Funky aroma that reminded me of sardines. In addition to the fishy note was cranberries, and some subtle roses. Some of the weird notes blew off with air, and it settled into a really nice rose. Didn’t hit the high notes that I’ve had before with this wine, but it was nice.

  • 2012 Domaine de l'Anglore Tavel Vintage 89 Points

    France, Rhône, Southern Rhône, Tavel

A light and airy Tavel. Good flavors of cranberries, raspberries, and roses. Maybe a bit simplistic, but delicious nonetheless.

  • 2007 Cecile Tremblay Chapelle-Chambertin 93 Points

France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Chapelle-Chambertin Grand Cru

Found this to be completely delicious. Aromas of some toasty notes, some cherries, a bit of dark fruit, brambles, florals, and minerals. Loved the airiness of the palate and I was just thrilled by how delicious and open this was.

  • 2006 Henri Bonneau Châteauneuf-du-Pape Réserve des Célestins 93 Points

    France, Rhône, Southern Rhône, Châteauneuf-du-Pape

Aromas of dark cherry, brambles, roses, & subtle coffee. The palate was complex and nuanced. At times, floral notes seemed to dominate the palate, while the next minute it was more about cherries and blackberries. Air helped this wine, and I think it’ll need many years to come to maturity.
