Quite round, generous, hints of vanilla and coffee, I was guessing Grande Marque, even a Moet-Hennessy product, so flamboyant and almost boudoir-like was the presence - I would have expected it to be tighter.
Drinking a point tight now, I actually guessed Bordeaux on this, quite typical with its Semillon-fatness and smoky, mineral presence with exotic fruits, honey and ginger underneath. A creamy wine, and very wonderful today.
France, Rhône, Southern Rhône, Châteauneuf-du-Pape
Grand Vin. This is the second or third time I am served this wine at this address - it has always been great, but tonight was extraordinary; I was guessing Rayas, others were guessing pinot noir, such was the creaminess and the elegance in this wine, light on its feat with very elegant Grenache-fruit, singing and dancing with hints of garrigue and locale. No need to wait any longer for this one.
I was guessing Bordeaux on this, such was the firmness and tannin-structure; it is a modern Nebbiolo, certainly, no sign of the lightness of the grape. Well structured with a full, cool, cool 2001-fruit - and certainly too young, still.
I brought this - and liked it, much more strict and firm, than I expected, lemon, chalk, limestone, a good backbone and a round body. Long life ahead, but no sin in opening now.
Very strict with quite a vibrant acidity, linear, precise with lemons galore, chalk, limestone; it is not for the faint of heart og for the actress late at night, but for the serious Champagne-lover who likes the wine to fight back.
Hi is an Englishman! - very much the English House, with a firm, dry structure, tobacco and chocolate, tannins galore, like a great Bordeaux-wine with a shit of sweet, alcoholic fruit. Not as great as the 1970 served at the domaine recently, but quite close...
