Flight 1 (2 Notes)

  • 1973 Penfolds Grange 90 Points

    Australia, South Australia

Ruby color, bricking towards the rim, bottle was in good ship. It didnt give much on the nose other than a little cooffee/mocha and some plum. in the mouth it was still quite vibrant, showing some black fruits and some mocha. med finish with pretty full mouth. drinks very well now and i think it will continue to for at least another five years. very nice bottle

  • 1975 Penfolds Grange Flawed

    Australia, South Australia

Fill on this bottle was into the shoulder and when opened the cork came out too easily. the color was a cloudy purple and it had a stewy fruit nose to it with a touch of cough medicine. in the mouth the oxidation was pretty obvious but the wine was still drinkable. it was fairly concentrated and a bit syrupy. the taste of raisans and black fruits dominated. med finish med length. i think if the bottle was in better shape this would have been a very nice bottle of Grange

  • 2004 John Duval Wines Shiraz Entity 91 Points

Australia, South Australia, Barossa, Barossa Valley

Another wine i thought was going to be the start of my OZ headache but less alcohol than i thought at 13.5%. Purple color in the glass, again sweet vanill and fruit smell with a touch of cinnamon i thought.also a good whiff of black fruits on th enose.
in the mouth it was supple yet a very full mouth of black fruits, casis and coffee. very well balanced and smooth. i think this one will also get better over next half dozen years. it was my second favorite wine of the night and i bought a case the next day

  • 1982 Penfolds Grange 94 Points

    Australia, South Australia

Color was still deep ruby with a little lightening around edges. the nose was a seductive mix of plums and red fruits, a touch of currants and some sweet spices. in the mouth it had the taste of a sweet light port with black and red currants.the wine had a slight jammy flavor with some fresh vanilla around the edges. I thought this was the wine of the night
