This bottle was slightly better than the one I opened recently. Or, more likely, I had a better opportunity to sit and evaluate the wine, as this was a sit-down dinner with 8 others. I really enjoyed the toasty aspect of the initial attack that then progressed to a very energetic, mineral and acid-driven palate.
France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru
Decent chardonnay, but nothing stands out. I really couldn't get into this wine. It definitely did not taste like Montrachet to me. Interesting that we were a table of 9, the 4 of us on one side didn't care for it while the other 5 on the other side absolutely adored it.
Pop and pour. As nice as this was, it was about the same experience as other Lopez Reserva whites I've had that were significantly younger. I was hoping for more complexity and didn't really get that, but it was quite solid and consistent with the oxidative, dry, mineral, lemon oil style.
France, Rhône, Southern Rhône, Châteauneuf-du-Pape
Medium-bodied, nice to drink a CDP that isn't over the top, but this seems like it might have faded a bit. While I enjoyed it, it didn't excel into the exceptional range to me.
Slow o'd a couple hours. The CORK was corked. It reeked of TCA, such that even smelling the open bottle from the neck, it smelled corked. The wine itself was not corked. It was a fairly mellow Pomerol, lots of tobacco, earth, a touch of tar. This wine is probably on the wrong side of the peak, but there's definitely a couple years left to enjoy them.
I really enjoyed this blend. I felt that the Cabernet Franc gave it an elegance, and a lean aspect. This was much more balanced than I was expecting. Flashy red to black fruit.
I've had several Myriad, and this is a very good Myriad. To me, this is a great representation of the over-the-top Napa cocktail wine style that is very popular right now. Whether you like that style or not will dictate whether you like this wine and/or how many points you give it.
