Bright red. Lots of char. Cheery cherry fruit, very nice texture, and a thin coating of earth. Above class.

Ruby. Like the Hautes Côtes, smoky, but this is not completely clean and smells like some brett rather than just oak char. Deeper and more mixed black and red fruit than that wine with earthier edge. More tannic. Very good but I worry about the direction it will go if it has brett now.

Beautiful deep ruby with great clarity. Cleanest of all the Arlot wines without any of the char or brett. The biggest of the 4 reds tasted with a wonderful texture. Very Nuits in its black fruit/earthy mix, and a good dose of tannin at the end. Suave and deep, but this needs time. Excellent.

Light ruby. Immediately more menthol and green than the Nuits, and a bit of the light char notes as well. Lighter weight, not nearly as ripe or as textured. Some spice. Not without interest, but I much preferred the 2 Nuits today.

Light ruby, pale edge. Brambly. Light to medium weight. Light black fruit with reasonable ripeness, anise, and oak char. Good at this level, but the wood sneaks up on you and dominates the finish.

Red center, light rim. Pungent cherry nose. Medium weight with a trace of sap. Very clean dark red fruit accompanied by subtle cooler green flavors. Clay feel, lots of soil, tannic finish. Honest, very good quality Morey village wine.

Translucent light core. Reticent aromatically. Surprisingly deep red fruit, slightly briary, good volume for Santenay, sharply tannic finish. Simple and straightforward now.

Light ruby center, earthy nose. Nice, lively, mouth filling black fruit with a twist of citrus zest. Very good acidity, moderately long, earthy finish. Flavorful, refined Pommard without any hard edges or harshness. Fine effort.

Ruby core almost to the rim. Brooding anise nose. Quite mouth coating and meaty. Bright mix of blackberry and blueberry in the mouth with fine acidity and furry tannins. Thick, rather sweet, and New World in style. This is very 2015-a crowd pleaser.

Light ruby. Cool, composed aromas with some mint. Elegant feel, subtly sweet and spicy, finely balanced, excellent texture, long soil-inflected finish. Strikingly classic and dry finish after the exuberant Giboulot Pommard. I loved the way this showed today. By far, my favorite wine of the tasting.

Deep ruby core. Soil and faint ripe berry. Mouth filling but not heavy, moderate wood. Sweet, ripe red fruit counterbalanced by significant soil, citricity, and drying tannins. This is tasty, approachable, and has earthy complexity, but it is large scaled and pretty obvious for a Gevrey Grand Cru. Will it gain in focus and subtlety over time?

2014 Pierre Morey Bourgogne-Aligoté
France, Burgundy, Bourgogne-Aligoté
(7/14/2017)
Light yellow. Flinty citrus nose. Some texture, terrific lemony core. Mineral and saline. I really liked this and have been impressed with the aging potential of Pierre Morey Aligoté. Could easily mistake this for Chardonnay if tasted blind.

2014 La Chablisienne Chablis La Sereine

Yellow/green. Lime and seashell. Light to medium body. Citrus, good mineral base, dry finish. Quite nice at the price.

2014 La Chablisienne Chablis Les Vénérables Vieilles Vignes
France, Burgundy, Chablis
(7/15/2017)
Same color as the Serein. More musky citrus on the nose. More body, vanilla and oak are more obvious. This comes across as less snappy and somewhat dull compared to the less expensive cuvée. Earthy finish. Not bad, but the cooperage is trying to make the wine more serious, to its detriment.

2015 Château de la Charrière Santenay 1er Cru Beauregard Domaine Yves Girardin
France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Santenay 1er Cru
(7/15/2017)
Yellow. Orange and floral aromas. Medium weight, woody, vanilla tinged base. The wood outweighs the fruit. Average acidity, good length. Less elevage would have been more.

2014 Marc Colin et Fils Saint-Aubin 1er Cru Les Combes Blanc
France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Saint-Aubin 1er Cru
(7/15/2017)
Pale yellow. Slight reduction. Light and elegant with nice creaminess. Very good underlying minerality, some harshness at the end from the sulfur. Good material, should be better in a couple of years.

2015 Domaine Pernot-Bélicard Meursault Vieilles Vignes
France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Meursault
(7/15/2017)
Light yellow. Toasty nose with some citrus. Medium weight, woody foundation. Low pitched pear fruit. Overall, somewhat soft and the oak overwhelms the finish. Average quality at best.

2015 Henri Boillot Meursault
France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Meursault
(7/15/2017)
Light yellow. Smoky nose. Excellent texture, clay feel. Pear, nuts, good acidity, and lots of soil at the end. No question there is a good amount of wood here, but this is a good basic Meursault nonetheless.

2013 Philippe Colin Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru Morgeot
France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru
(7/15/2017)
Medium yellow. Lemon and wood. Medium weight, excellent feel in the mouth. Sweet citrus, just a touch of reduction, underlying stone and terrific acidity. With another year or two, this should be very nice.
