Flight 1 (12 Notes)

  • NV Gosset Champagne 15 ans 91 Points

    France, Champagne

Toast, honey, marmalade, cherry and some earthy notes. Shows some good acidity in line with the fairly developed, but reasonably bright fruited palate. Mid length. Drink now, as I expect it is designed to be.

  • 2013 Gaja Langhe Chardonnay Gaia & Rey 92 Points

    Italy, Piedmont, Langhe, Langhe DOC

Popcorn, mandarin, flint, white florals and orange. Mineral notes throughout the palate, but with rounded fruit showing at the edges. Very good intensity and length - this is really well balanced. Plenty to like about the style of this wine.

  • 2011 István Szepsy Furmint Tokaji Urban 90 Points

    Hungary, Tokaji

Golden colour. Cedar, lemon and a floral aromatic lift. Good textured, quite tangy acidity with decent length and a little oxidative twang toward the finish. Interesting.

  • 2011 Foradori Nosiola Fontanasanta Vigneti delle Dolomiti IGT 93 Points

Italy, Trentino Alto-Adige / Veneto, Vigneti delle Dolomiti IGT

Golden yellow coloured, with a slight cloudy element. Mango, stalks, lemon rind, musk and lychee. Fantastic texture with phenolics and rich fruit playing well together, plenty of interest and length on this. Unexpected and compelling.

  • 2003 Domaine Fourrier Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru Champeaux Vieille Vigne 88 Points

France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru

Charcoal, cherry, blackberry and cola. Rich and ripe on the palate, there is control and structure, though the flavours fade slightly early on the palate. Good but not more.

  • 2005 Thibault Liger-Belair Corton-Les Renardes 91 Points

France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Corton Grand Cru

Blind. Stalks, undergrowth, earth, raspberry and toast. Good composure on the palate, has powerful fruit but good tannins to hold the structure in place. Good texture and weight, this has plenty of potential.

  • 2005 Savaterre Pinot Noir 90 Points

    Australia, Victoria, North East, Beechworth

Blind. Cola, cherry, mint and violets. Strong spice element on the palate, gives interest with the more intense sweet fruit flavours. Good length and drinking really well at the moment. Really pleasing showing for this wine.

  • 2005 Tyrrell's Shiraz 4 Acres 90 Points

Australia, New South Wales, Hunter Valley

Floral, licorice, cherry, cranberry, earthy and some bretty notes coming through as well. Good fruit presence on the palate, with some sweetness that doesn't detract from the drive of the wine. The bretty elements come through on the palate as well though and it's a little bit concerning for the longer term potential of the wine if other bottles are the same.

  • 2010 Luigi Baudana Barolo Cerretta 91 Points

    Italy, Piedmont, Langhe, Barolo

Opened around 8 hours prior. Diesel and tar, cherry and raspberry with plenty of smoky notes as well. Upfront tannins kick along the palate, this has imposing structure with the bold fruit sitting in behind for now. It is well tailored, with the various elements all in place, just requiring more time in order to show off.

  • 2005 Torbreck Grenache Les Amis 90 Points

Australia, South Australia, Barossa, Barossa Valley

Pepper, violet, graphite and some slight menthol notes, with oak and blackcurrant as well. Rich and full flavoured on the palate, with plenty of sweet fruit - doesn't show much subtlety at the moment but it may come with time.

  • 2000 Zind-Humbrecht Riesling Clos Windsbuhl Vendange Tardive 93 Points

    France, Alsace

Golden orange coloured. Passionfruit, pineapple, ginger, orange and mandarin on the nose. Moderate sweetness on the palate, really nicely balanced and drinkable. Good flow, with a real mix of compleixty and freshness. Really like the style of this wine, it is drinking really nicely now.
