Flight 1 (5 Notes)

  • 2011 Perrier-Jouët Champagne Belle Epoque 90 Points

    France, Champagne

Light, brilliant, golden yellow. Medium perlage.
Rich and fine at nose: toasted almonds, GYPSUM!, fruity (agrumes and cut apples) and flowery (hawthorn).
Straight, neat at taste, "vertical", based on acidity and agrumes' notes. Great minerality. Its strenght is not based on butter/woody notes, but on a great acidity, donating long persistance and promising longevity.

Light golden yellow, brilliant. Fine perlage.
Complex, intense and fine at nose: panettone with candies, strawberries, amber, liquorice flower and mineral. Apple note.
Full mouth, with extremely fine perlage and a great structure. Perfectly amalgamated between fruit, alcohol and acidity+ minerality. Complex...I'd say Complete!. Long persistance, perfectly balanced and a fruity ending (apples).

Closing

Every champagne producer has his own philosophy. Perrier-Jouët Champagne's philosophy is based on a great elegance and agility of wines, more flowers than butter, avoiding any use of barrels. All wines are degorged at least 1 year before, often 3 years before giving an excellent balance.
