Introduction

Some really good wines under $25 at my in-laws cabin in Winter, Wisconsin. I am glad to reconfirm how made the Menage a Trois wines are. Sickly sweet and unbalanced.

Flight 1 (6 Notes)

  • 2009 Domaine de la Côte de l'Ange Châteauneuf-du-Pape 91 Points

    France, Rhône, Southern Rhône, Châteauneuf-du-Pape

    (10/17/2018)

Day 1: This needed some air. Not a pop and pour at all. Spices, Garrique, menthol and red currants. Very concentrated wine and classic CDP. Medium plus finish. This will age for many years. 91 points
Day 2: Really nice. Fruit is more evident with raspberries and prunes. This is a classic and balanced. 91 plus
Recommendation: Unless you give this a 3 hour decant hold this until 2021.

  • 2015 Fontella Chianti 90 Points

    Italy, Tuscany, Chianti

    (10/18/2018)

Day 1: This is really good for the money. Fruit forward with Bing cherries, plums and blueberries. Also features dust, dried herbs and mint. Medium finish. This is the second wine on a week I have rated the same or higher than James Suckling. They even have the suckling 90 point score.

  • 2016 Folie à Deux Mènage á Trois California Red Wine 74 Points

    USA, California

    (10/18/2018)

Moving this around in my mouth makes this wine very unpleasant. Syrup, stewed fruits and sugar. This is much better when not applying the tasting process.

  • 2014 Marietta Cellars Christo 91 Points

    USA, California, Sonoma County

    (10/18/2018)

day 1: Bigger style wine with blackberries, smoke, spice, plums and rose petals. On the palate wood is present. I liked this at a recent tasting and I think over 3 days this should improve. 89 points
Day 2: More balanced on day 2. Not as much of the jammy fruits. Blueberries, strawberries, spice, subtle wood and match stick. Solid and well made. Great QPR. 90 points
Day 3: More refined. Nice fruits but adds black pepper which I enjoy. Medium plus finish. A hit with the crowd. 91 points
Recommendation: This needs a little time. Got better on day 3 which tells me drink 2020 and beyond.

  • 2013 Bodega Norton Privada Mendoza 93 Points

    Argentina, Mendoza

    (10/19/2018)

Day 1: Super funk, blueberries, bosenberries, subtle spices and gravel. While not Bordeaux a scary resemblance which is up there with Sena. Hard to tell how long this will go but I say drink now. 92 points
Day 2: Super funky. Blueberries, raspberries, minerals, tobacco and underbrush. Very similar to a Left Banker that cost 5 times as much. Wow! 93 points
    Day 3: Wow!
Recommendation: Drink now as this is in an amazing place!
