Round and vertically easy to like but.... hard to love. Found myself disliking on the second swirl. Cherry up front but quickly dissolves to the tannin and overall unbalanced.

I love the use of new barrels and this is a shining example. With the velvety character of merlot this wine is doubly creamy textured on the palette with a biting tannin which tells me that this is built to age. Find some and put away.

Lacking the promised fruit, thus wine delivers a melancholy mix of blackberry, yeast and some apricot. The wine is thin, lacks depth but is hard to hate.

A well produced Pomerol and one worth aging. Tonight this was simply opened too young. Loved the fruit and surprised given the tannin that it even emerged. Merlot dominated and hence a velvety texture bug oh that tannic presence.

I echo the notes of CT member La Cave d'Argent. The notes were spot on with my precepts.

Weak watery and nothing like the other Pomerol's I have had. Hard to find fruit and even harder to find balance.

Once again I echo the notes of La Cave d'Argent. Spot on.

Definetly soft, very round and a ready to drink Margaux. One of the better wines tonight from the Margaux region. This is mostly Cabernet 55% but also 40% merlot.
Post a Comment / 1 person found this helpful, do you? Yes - No / Report Issue
Not very desirable in mouth. This wine tastes of unripened fruit. Slightly sour and green.
Post a Comment / Do you find this review helpful? Yes - No / Report Issue
More plum than most of the other Margaux wines. Thinner mouthfeel and also slightly more green and underdeveloped. Suffers from its place on the lineup. Followed a wonderful Cantenac Brown.
Post a Comment / Do you find this review helpful? Yes - No / Report Issue
The medium balanced and reserved Margaux wine. Just so hard to judge tonight. More present tannin than I would prefer but I get the long range design intention of the wine maker. Less silky and more harsh acidity again in the same vein of a well built wine.
I would rate this wine on the optimistic side of 91-92

Another great Margaux tonight. This one has 65% Cabernet. Soft like the Brane Cantenac yet slightly more aromatic with earth and slight amount of leather.
Post a Comment / 1 person found this helpful, do you? Yes - No / Report Issue
More modern and more forward than most other Margaux's tonight. Overall medium viscosity and medium body mouthfeel. Hard to hate and yet hard to really love. I suppose just ok but at these pricing levels it needs to be better.
Post a Comment / Do you find this review helpful? Yes - No / Report Issue
More aromatic than in mouth pleasantries. Sort of over rated this year. Did not stand out. Round for sure but nothing in terms depth. Mostly cherry and slightly unripened at that.

Again La Cave d'Argent nailed the notes. I echo his conclusions.
Post a Comment / Do you find this review helpful? Yes - No / Report Issue
Well produced and easy drinking right now. Lovely fragrant fruits which are more present than most tonight. Not as tight tannin and approachable.
Post a Comment / Do you find this review helpful? Yes - No / Report Issue
Wow this was the best of both worlds in the Margaux wine sampling tonight. It was balanced with tannins in check and a vivid acidity. Just felt young and yet ready to drink.
Post a Comment / 1 person found this helpful, do you? Yes - No / Report Issue
Hmmmm... I don't quite get a Margaux. Thin and a little more like a Medoc than I prefer. Some harshness to the mid-palette. Flatter finish
Post a Comment / 1 person found this helpful, do you? Yes - No / Report Issue
This did show well. Quite faulty and where do I start. Unbalanced and slightly watery mouthfeel. Perhaps some smokey fruit to it. Tight finish which needs more time.
Post a Comment / Do you find this review helpful? Yes - No / Report Issue
Refreshing and light given that this followed 2 dozen red wines tonight. Not quite in the category of the other wines so this was another victim of being tasted in the wrong order. That said I get a semillion dominated wine with a mouthfeel which is lacking minerality.
Post a Comment / Do you find this review helpful? Yes - No / Report Issue
Light bodied in mouth. Hard to find fruit and generally a "just ok" wine.
Post a Comment / 1 person found this helpful, do you? Yes - No / Report Issue
Wonderful white with an expressive floral nose. In mouth pineapple, some honey and just the right amount of creamy texture.
Post a Comment / Do you find this review helpful? Yes - No / Report Issue
Lemon driven and mineral finish. Seems very restrained and perhaps just needs more decanting or perhaps bottle time. Too young to make vivid notes. Sorry but I think this wine is bette than my notes tonight.
Post a Comment / Do you find this review helpful? Yes - No / Report Issue
I loved this wine. I love the story in speaking with the wine rep and I was most impressed with the viscous fruit driven and modern wine that this was.
Post a Comment / 1 person found this helpful, do you? Yes - No / Report Issue
Just ok given the remarkable lineup. Reserved and quite tannic. Hard to sense the fruit or even the acidity. I much preferred the white.
Post a Comment / 2 people found this helpful, do you? Yes - No / Report Issue
So this was tasted near the end of the evening of a spectacluar array of 16's. I found it open and definitely wood has influenced the tasting. That said it has been almost 2 hours so air maybe has helped.
Post a Comment / Do you find this review helpful? Yes - No / Report Issue
Nothing really jumped out. Certainly some earthy character but oh that tannin finish. I could not get the nuances that distinguish this wine. I believe it has the goods to age but I simply am not convinced that the flavors are there to improve. Tough lineup and this probably suffered to the order of consumption.
Post a Comment / Do you find this review helpful? Yes - No / Report Issue
A more creamy texture than I expected. It's ok but not great.
Post a Comment / Do you find this review helpful? Yes - No / Report Issue
Wow is this closed right now. Hard to find any fruit but the mulitple non fruit background flavors I find tells me this is a worthy wine. There is an earthy character with some lead pencil presence. I sense cedarwood and tobacco leaf. Hard to really score but I believe this is a winner.
Post a Comment / Do you find this review helpful? Yes - No / Report Issue
Nothing great. In fact I think that given tonight's line up this wine represented one of the least expensive wines which places this on a higher QPR status. Still not my style.
Post a Comment / Do you find this review helpful? Yes - No / Report Issue
A respectable showing with balance. Nothing particularly special but not bad. Semillion really does balance the SB moreso in this wines than others tonight.
Post a Comment / Do you find this review helpful? Yes - No / Report Issue
I did not find this special but did find it enjoyable. Fruits were more present than most tonight which made this wine not entirely unlikable. Black cherry dominated with a balanced character and approachable right now.
Post a Comment / 1 person found this helpful, do you? Yes - No / Report Issue
A mineral driven and mostly SB white. Lemon dominates the palette with a soft mid palette. Well produced and enjoyable now. Not likely to improve
Post a Comment / Do you find this review helpful? Yes - No / Report Issue
A large spice driven and black fruit oriented wine. Actually lovely and balanced too. The best Passac-Leognan so far tonight. That is .... so far.
Post a Comment / Do you find this review helpful? Yes - No / Report Issue
A reserved and ready to age beauty. Medium bodied but with tannins that are simply too large to explain. Yet the fruit is present and is surrounded by earthy characters like tobacco leaf, a small amount of vegetable and asphalt.
Post a Comment / 2 people found this helpful, do you? Yes - No / Report Issue
A big let down. I had this just after the pape Clement red. This was immediately enjoyable but so flat and so much of a let down. Small amounts of lemon fruit, some wood in the mid palette but mostly a ,ore acidic expression than I desired. I would say that this is ageable and worth trying again in 5 years.
Post a Comment / Do you find this review helpful? Yes - No / Report Issue
A big wine and worthy of aging. Large viscous mouthfeel with flavors of tobacco with a presence of berry and also dark cherry. The best of the Passac-Leognan tonight.
Read 1 Comment / Post a Comment / 3 people found this helpful, do you? Yes - No / Report Issue
The white Passac-Leognan WOTN. Near perfect. Balanced acidity, balanced fruit. Just when I thought the creamy fruity semillion dominated I got mineral notes of lemon and citrus and was reminded that the SB is present as well. So much complexity and depth.
I would say that this competes well with an Haut Brion Blanc at a fraction f the price. Bravo !!!!!
Post a Comment / 1 person found this helpful, do you? Yes - No / Report Issue
An elegant but this red. I would add balanced but lacking depth.
Post a Comment / Do you find this review helpful? Yes - No / Report Issue
Perhaps too young but I found this closed and unbalanced. Dominated by sharp minerlality and lacking fruit.
Post a Comment / Do you find this review helpful? Yes - No / Report Issue
Mediocre and blahhh. Closed, unbalanced and perhaps needing time. Tonight this did not show well but then again ....tough setting given the great 16' s present
Post a Comment / Do you find this review helpful? Yes - No / Report Issue
I have this at 80% SB and 20% semillion. That said I found this as a blah wine. Hard to find fruit and harder to find ageable qualities.

This was the number 2 wine among the Pauillac's tonight for me.
Wonderful and just filled with potential. Fell short of the great Pichon Lalande but still a close second.
Earthy, and filled with herbal notes. On the palette it's tobacco leaf, slightly rotted blueberry, and just so sweet. Can't imagine how this wine is in five years.
Post a Comment / 1 person found this helpful, do you? Yes - No / Report Issue
One of the great wines tonight and in a great class. You can sense the quality differences with lead pencil shavings, cassis, and slightly rotted mulberry fruit. So sweet and approachable right now.
The Pauillac's dominated tonight. Among the Pauillac wines this was #3 tonight.
Post a Comment / Do you find this review helpful? Yes - No / Report Issue
One of my fav's tonight. The wine is just so approachable and ready to open tonight. I am sure that the rep of the wine tonight at the UGS event did not properly give this wine the time it needed. That said it drank fabulously but not to its potential.
I found restrained blackberry, some black cherry, certainly Cassis but it also had a finish of tobacco leaf. One of the great left bank wines.
Read 1 Comment / Post a Comment / 1 person found this helpful, do you? Yes - No / Report Issue
The best of the Pauillac wines tonight and among the best of the vintage for Bordeaux. This one has lead pencil shavings, strong aromatics of cassis and blackberry fruit. Just so balanced despite the slightly closed initial impression of tannins. Why open these so young .... I say.
This one has so much potential. I would hold for another 10 years
Post a Comment / 4 people found this helpful, do you? Yes - No / Report Issue
This was a definetly strange wine. Do they not pick out the grapes with fungus on them ? Pains me to give this score as the wine seems better.
There was evidence of fruit on the palette. Mostly cherry, a hint of overripened strawberry, and also unripened plum.
Acidic both in the mid palette and on the finish.
Post a Comment / Do you find this review helpful? Yes - No / Report Issue
One of those wow wines. I scratched my head at not having had this beauty before. It followed the poor showing of Puy Ducasse.
This one had classic Pauillac flavors. Left bank lead pencil shavings, blackberry fruit and earth. Loved it and would highly recommend putting this away for the next decade.
Post a Comment / 2 people found this helpful, do you? Yes - No / Report Issue
Just ok
Post a Comment / Do you find this review helpful? Yes - No / Report Issue
Nothing standing out here. A bit unbalanced and acidic. For a pauillac I would say that the wine is below par.
Post a Comment / Do you find this review helpful? Yes - No / Report Issue
I have loved ch. d'armailhac's for years. This one is no different but also nothing more special. This one is bing cherry, some lead pencil, a floral sense and certainly an earthy quality which I have come to expect from these wines, but it lacks that expected special 16' vintage difference.
I suppose it is fair to say that the wine is below expectations. It is just so young and so unfair to judge.
Post a Comment / Do you find this review helpful? Yes - No / Report Issue
A really sunstandard wine given the lineup tonight. Yes it's under $20 but it is still overpriced. Wine was so closed it's not funny. The wine rep should really prep the bottles or open them at least a couple of hours ahead.
Post a Comment / 1 person found this helpful, do you? Yes - No / Report Issue
Way way too closed. Why serve this in this company. I am sure this wine is better than tonight's showing. I sensed fruit but oh those tannins !!
Post a Comment / Do you find this review helpful? Yes - No / Report Issue
Dense and chewy but closed and difficult to judge. I got some chocolate or is that cocoa ? I believe this wine would benefit from age. It seems the wares are there to benefit from some bottle age.
Read 1 Comment / Post a Comment / 2 people found this helpful, do you? Yes - No / Report Issue
Good for a Haut Medoc. Not neccesarily my style but here goes. Sort of this (lacking viscosity) but packed with berry, some earthy notes, and a finish of chocolate. Still this needs time and is not ready.
Post a Comment / Do you find this review helpful? Yes - No / Report Issue
Fruit forward and modern style. Pricey for what it is delivering but I liked it.
Post a Comment / Do you find this review helpful? Yes - No / Report Issue
A great wine and ..... year after year Cantemerle achieves ! Don't expect blockbuster but try this and then try to locate fault. Great structure with hints of tobacco, bright berry fruit, and some tannic backbone.
This wine could very well be the best value on the night.
Post a Comment / 1 person found this helpful, do you? Yes - No / Report Issue
Dominated by unripened plum and a sour acidic mouthfeel, the wine is undesirable and simply not worthy of the company it is keeping tonight.
Post a Comment / Do you find this review helpful? Yes - No / Report Issue
Totally closed and makes me wonder ....why serve this tonight in this company ? Mostly unripened and sour fruit. Could perhaps improve but I am not here to judge this tonight.
Post a Comment / Do you find this review helpful? Yes - No / Report Issue
A great example of Haut Medoc. Simply one of the best given the cost versus the quality. I think that I will let my notes mimic those of CT member Purple Tooth. Those notes are spot on with my thoughts on the wine.
Post a Comment / Do you find this review helpful? Yes - No / Report Issue
Undrinkable and totally shut down. I ask you at what point is an overly tannic wine to be enjoyed ?
The fruit on this wine simply can't be found. Unjudgeable !!! Why open these tannic beasts in the company of the wines tonight ?
Post a Comment / Do you find this review helpful? Yes - No / Report Issue
Nothing that deserves to be in the company of the wine tonight. Rough and closed wine. Tannin and acidity are totally unbalanced. Quite unripened picked fruit.

Lighter both in mouthfeel and in flavor. A just ok St Julien.
I was told that this is 68% Cabernet 28% merlot and 4% petit Verdot.
Unfortunate victem to the tasting order. Followed the fabulous Leoville Poyferre.
Post a Comment / Do you find this review helpful? Yes - No / Report Issue
A well produced and more delicate Saint Julien than I was expecting. Good balance immediately out of the bottle. In the finish the wine closes to all tannin. I suspect the wine will need some time. I was told it was Produced with 61% cabernet and 29% merlot 7% Cab Franc and 3% petit Verdot.
Post a Comment / Do you find this review helpful? Yes - No / Report Issue
The real deal. I can sense this today and can sense the bones of improvement going forward. The St Julien wine of the night. Berries graphite, some tobacco leaf.
Post a Comment / 1 person found this helpful, do you? Yes - No / Report Issue
So difficult to judge. Tannic and closed. I spent 2 minutes swirling and tasting. I get a tremendous potential wine here. Has all of the tools in place. Great acidity, mild fruits, tannins, viscosity but just to young for me to state that this is a 95 plus wine.
This is a winner but probably needs 5+ years
Post a Comment / 2 people found this helpful, do you? Yes - No / Report Issue
An elegant and mid bodied wine. Classic St Julien but not quite the wine I prefer. Frankly a step sister to the wineries main Leoville Barton.
Post a Comment / Do you find this review helpful? Yes - No / Report Issue
Just so young and yet so powerful today. Built with a strong tannic presence. Today it seems elegant but powerful. Was told 67% Cabernet. 28% merlot 5% petit Verdot and 60% new wood.
Post a Comment / 2 people found this helpful, do you? Yes - No / Report Issue
Just so reserved and yet slightly smooth in mouth. This wine is better than most notes. It is reserved and quite melancholy. It has a fruit presence and yet loaded with asphalt in the nose and gaphite on the palette. I get a mulberry fruit and some vegetable at the mid palette. The best of the St. julien tonight
Post a Comment / Do you find this review helpful? Yes - No / Report Issue
There is a tremendous difference in this wine from the one that preceded it. This one is more full bodied. On the palette there are violet and floral aromatics with a mouthfeel that is full and viscous. The mid palette reveals a tannin laiden core of blackberry fruit. Finish shows a restrained fruit driven modern wine which I do believe shows ageable characteristics. The problem here is the unbalanced combo. Could potentially be 92 +
Post a Comment / 3 people found this helpful, do you? Yes - No / Report Issue
Just so difficult to judge. Immediately closed and medium body mouthfeel. I recently opened an 05 and it was immediately nothing special. The next day it was signing with notes of tobacco, bkakcberry fruit and velvety mouthfeel.
That said I did not get the feeling that this wine would really fit that same improvement.
Post a Comment / 1 person found this helpful, do you? Yes - No / Report Issue
What a fabulous wine and likewise fabulous story for this Vineyard. I liked both tonight. The wine is way to young to judge and I don't know how they expect anyone to thoroughly do so. That said there are signs of a winner here. I sensed the melancholy in the wine from the 50% new oak barrels. It is mouth coating, (yes really dry) .... but quite complex with tobacco leaf and earth.
Post a Comment / Do you find this review helpful? Yes - No / Report Issue
Such a high expectation from me for this tonight. That said, it delivered but barely delivered. The vintage is just ok here. As expected great structure but .... OH THOSE TANNINS !!!! How can we judge this tonight?
Similar to 15' but it fails to show the ripened fruits I was expecting. Yet it is in the finish that this wine excels. The finish is all tobacco and some asphalt. So dense and packed in that the fruit is simply not present.
So I expect that this would improve greatly. So for now 91+
Post a Comment / 1 person found this helpful, do you? Yes - No / Report Issue
Hard to believe this is in the tasting Tonight. I found this wine was a tad bit tannic and lacking any acidity. Why would it improve. Mediocre at best but also us offensive.
Post a Comment / Do you find this review helpful? Yes - No / Report Issue
Lovely but so young to judge. Tremendous potential but if I am here to judge only acidity and tannin then this wine scores 95 for its potential, however for enjoyment and presence today...... it is a 85.
To be clear That means it is .... not enjoyable. I will give this wine a high mark of splitting the difference at 90.

Fresh lemon aromas give way to a sweet Orange flavored juice. Really nice right now.

To me this tied for the top wine among the Sauternes. Mango flavors, tropical flavors, viscous juice.

2016 Château Balestard La Tonnelle 88 Points

Brief tasting but not particularly exciting. Well rounded aromatics of black fruits but dried mouthfeel and impossible to discern finish. Way to young to taste (I hope !) but for now not deserving of any significant scoring.

While brief in tasting I simply did not get worthiness. Pricey for the quality. Dried earth, surrounding muted red fruits. Unpleasant and perhaps simply too young to be tasting. I remain hopeful that this achieves its potential but .... I doubt this wine gets there.

The WOTN along with the 16' Pichon Lalande. This is black fruit laden up front with a viscous mouthfeel and quite closed finish. This formula is totally a winner (however) and this needs 10 years to show. Find and store.

Not quite the 15' but clearly a great wine. Certainly this requires patience but the style here is one I like (and that is coming from a Napa Cab guy).
There are black cherry fruits, some boysenberry fruit sourness but overall fresh sweet fruits. Wonderful finish which is no where near as closed as others tonight.

I am neutral to this one. Frankly I have never had a Dassault. Seems like a value oriented wine with some earthy quality. This and not as viscous as I would have expected but the presence of dark cherry and prune counters my impressions and makes me scratch my head about this wine.
I think that this is a sleeper tonight amidst a grouping of simply great wines.
