Double blind in New World Pinot Noir tasting. Bright and crunchy red berry shows both ripe and tart notes. Some baby fat on finis. Better in another year.
Double blind in New World Pinot Noir tasting. Really odd today. Ripe, nearly candied with a rich meatiness that wouldn't have made me think it was even Pinot Noir. Pronounced new oak, sweet spice. An off bottle? Tough to say, but I would consider this an 85 point wine today.
USA, California, Central Coast, Santa Barbara County
Double blind in New World Pinot Noir tasting. 50% Bien Nacido, 25% Talley, 25% Sanford and Benedict. Ripe but tired fruit with a bit of protruded acidity on finish. 5 years past its peak drinking window.

Double blind in New World Pinot Noir tasting. Once past some reduction, plenty of good red and black cherry aromas and flavors emerge with savory spice and hints of spring flowers. Good weight and good+ length. Drinking well now.
Double blind in New World Pinot Noir tasting. Rich black fruit that is still nicely bright for its age. Clearly ripe, but also well balanced with good depth.
Double blind in New World Pinot Noir tasting. Slight reduction to start. Subtle floral start with good array of bright mostly black fruit. Rich start, more texturally elegant from middle through finish. Very enjoyable now.
Double blind in New World Pinot Noir tasting. Impossible to mistake for anything other than Cali Pinot, this is big, ripe and fun. But also very dense and retaining enough structure to be in good balance. Drinking better than I would have expected.
Double blind in New World Pinot Noir tasting. Bright red fruit throughout with plenty of energy. Good weight, good+ length. Faint heat on finish, but otherwise very well balanced. Great wine for its level and price.
Open several hours, served blind to the tasting group, then final 1/4 bottle finished several hours later. Complex array of red berries on nose and palate with elegant, savory spice. Good weight, better length, lots of finesse. Better at the end of the evening, after open 8 hours. Upside from here.
USA, Oregon, Willamette Valley, Eola - Amity Hills
Open several hours, served blind to the tasting group, then final 1/4 bottle finished several hours later. Black and red cherry start-to-finish with some roasted meat and savory spice. Good+ richness and density, good length. Slightly more firm when finished 10+ hours after it was first opened. Upside from here.
Double blind in New World Pinot Noir tasting. Red cherry on nose and palate, much brighter than I would expect given its age. Good weight, better length and nicely finessed.
USA, California, Sonoma County, Russian River Valley
Double blind in New World Pinot Noir tasting. Charming red and black fruit with good weight and structure, but fully mature, showing at least as much earth and mushroom as fruit. Very enjoyable.
Certainly enjoyable mostly black fruit with faint spice notes. Still nicely fresh with enough background structure. Nothing complex, but nicely tasty now.
USA, California, Sonoma County, Russian River Valley
Tasting, brief note. Some reduction. Dense and meaty and a bit chewy with forward, ripe black fruit that just stays on the right side of the ultra-ripe borderline. Faint cherry cola finish.
USA, Oregon, Willamette Valley, Eola - Amity Hills
Popped-and-poured, served blind to the tasting group, then final 1/4 bottle finished several hours later. Red and black berries richly spiced with the brightness of a well made whole cluster Pinot Noir. Hints of savory and sweetness combine for charm and complexity. Good now, and this will evolve in good ways over the next decade.
Double blind in New World Pinot Noir tasting. Charming aromas of red cherry, summer flowers and Asina five spice. Similar flavors are good, but just too pale and shallow.
