Introduction

Longshadow Ranch Winery is a winery attached to a petting zoo. Not kidding.

Flight 1 (8 Notes)

  • 2000 Longshadow Ranch Ponderosa Port 83 Points

USA, California, South Coast, Temecula Valley

Previous CT descriptions for this wine are right on the nose, it’s not a traditional port and to list it as such is an injustice to vintage port. This is a solera aged in 60 year old whiskey barrels. So the color is very much closer to tawny or madeira. I was told the majority of the blend is Zinfandel with other bits blended in to round it out. The winery claims it is famous “worldwide”. Raise your hand if you have heard of it.... I didnt think so.

  • 2015 Longshadow Ranch Cinsault 81 Points

USA, California, South Coast, Temecula Valley

Very light in the glass and on the nose. Fruit forward and served with a slight chill. It's a very simple, straightforward wine best with cheap pizza.

  • 2016 Longshadow Ranch Cabernet Franc 86 Points

USA, California, South Coast, Temecula Valley

Best wine from a tasting; more fruit forward with balanced varietal character - violets, cocoa, black plum, stones, leather - with medium acidity and tannin.

  • 2016 Longshadow Ranch Syrah 83 Points

USA, California, South Coast, Temecula Valley

Earthy, flat fruit with black pepper finish. Light in the glass compared to most TV Syrah.

  • 2015 Longshadow Ranch Malbec Estate 85 Points

USA, California, South Coast, Temecula Valley

There is a pleasing sharpness to fruit and acids that are missing from the majority of the other Longshadow wines.

  • 2016 Longshadow Ranch Tempranillo Estate 84 Points

USA, California, South Coast, Temecula Valley

Recently bottled. Earthy, dark fruit, minerals... lots of high acid drag it down. Could use some bottle time to smooth out.

  • 2015 Longshadow Ranch Gunslinger's Reserve 82 Points

USA, California, South Coast, Temecula Valley

Rustic quality to this wine, leather, herbs, black cherry, black pepper. A blend of Cab Sauv and Syrah. Has much more of the Syrah profile.

  • 2014 Longshadow Ranch Sangiovese 82 Points

USA, California, South Coast, Temecula Valley

Good fresh purple-red color; Lacks that trademark Sangiovese profile and has a bit of a concerning biting acidic finish.
