Banyuls
Tasted Saturday, September 14, 2019 - Friday, September 27, 2019 by amateur62 with 129 views
All wines tasted at the winery and during our dinners.
Tasting at Templiers shop in Banyuls. Unfortunately the dry wines were presented from bottles that were too long open and in a bad shape, therefore I did not describe nor rate these wines, the tasting was just a shame. Nevertheless, their Banyuls are still a pleasure.

Short note. A big step up compared to the basic Rimage. Red berries, dense and concentrated, fresh, long finish. Already very approachable but will win with every additional year, has enough structure to age, superb, 92+.

La Vieille Cave, Banyuls.
Mineral with a hint of lemon, fresh and clean, lean but not light bodied, medium length, 88+. Very good with mussels or as starter, not for the long run I think, better drink it in its youth.

La Vieille Cave, Banyuls.
Grenache noir 40%, Carignan 40% and Mourvèdre 20%. Fresh on the fruit, elegant and pure, medium length. Very good to veal or chicken but could not keep up with magret de canard on sauce de banyuls. Drink in its youth, 88+.

La Vieille Cave, Banyuls.
Grenache noir, Mourvèdre, Syrah. Opened an hour before dinner and poured into the glasses. Lot of jammy fruit, new oak, full bodied, very smooth, long finish. Modern style, not what I usually like, but this is great, everything fits together, perfect for BBQ or Pizza, drink now or during the next 3 to 5 years. 91 to 93.

Still austere, needs food at this stage. Black currant and prune, medium+ acidity, full bodied, a lot of fine tannin, long finish. Better wait for some years, has the structure to age. Very classic and great Collioure, rather elegant, best 2022 to 2032 (91+).

Much more elegant than the 2012 vintage I had from this wine. Early drinking window, can age for some more years, 2019 to 2023 or 25. 89+.

Nuts and fig, on the palate fresh, orange peel, medium bodied, very long finish, mild and harmonious though very complex, great. Blind I would guess on good old Tawny not on Banyuls.
