Introduction

Tasting of the 2016 vintage hosted by Martel for 110 guests with a total of 64 DRC bottle consumed! Given that production for Échezeaux and Grands-Échezeaux was too small for commercial bottling (and the Montrachet was not produced at all) in 2016, we were offered back vintages instead.

In general, I was surprised about how approachable the 2016 vintage already is (with the exception of Romanée-Conti). Needless to say, purity and elegance was impressive across the board with some incredible versatility in the glass. For me, the La Tâche scored best, followed by Richebourg and Romanée-Conti – although the latter may well surpass the La Tâche in the long run. Corton came in last.

Of the non-2016 vintages Montrachet 2014 was strong, Échezeaux and Grands-Échezeaux were solid.
