Introduction

With the tariff my merchant decided to review some white and red Bourgogne still in the market. Prices are going up so it was worth a second look. We were gathered to taste Nouveau Beaujolais anyway.

Flight 1 - Third Thursday In November (1 Note)

Beaujolais

Flight 2 - Whites (4 Notes)

Four nice wines, bought some of the La Chatelaine

  • 2017 La Soeur Cadette Bourgogne Blanc 87 Points

    France, Burgundy, Bourgogne Blanc

I bought some of this back in February and put it away for this winter. It came back in a buying tasting considering the tariff situation. It is nice and at $17 still a value but I did not buy more. It showed good character lemon and a touch of honey but just a bit flat. In the four white wine lineup it was fourth. I don't regret my inventory but I don't need more and it is ready to drink.

  • 2018 La Soeur Cadette Bourgogne Vézelay 89 Points

    France, Burgundy, Bourgogne Vézelay

Good character and depth, nice texture and nice acid balance. Clean and fresh, needs some time to develop. At $17 it tied as a second choice and priced $10 cheaper that the wine it tied. Good value.

  • 2018 Domaine de la Cadette Bourgogne Vézelay La Châtelaine 91 Points

    France, Burgundy, Bourgogne Vézelay

Very attractive citrus, touch of honey, good balance and great linger. A complex wine with lovely flavors that stretch into the long finish. Best of the four WB's.

  • 2018 Domaine Montanet-Thoden Bourgogne Vézelay Le Galerne 89 Points

    France, Burgundy, Bourgogne Vézelay

Really liked this in a flight of four White Burgundies. Good balance and texture but the flavors which had intensity were not as layered and complex. Still this was tied as my second choice, but it was $27+.

Flight 3 - Reds (7 Notes)

All disappointing, overpriced, even with price reductions

Closing

There is a reason many of these wines are still around, most were poor values and in the case of the reds insipid. The Beaujolais was the best red of the evening.
