Flight 1 (3 Notes)

  • 2000 E. Guigal Côte-Rôtie La Mouline

    France, Rhône, Northern Rhône, Côte-Rôtie

Great aromatics - sweet red fruits, earth, and spcie notes. Young, feminine palate with a hard, sharp acidity and fine tannins. Tightens up some with time, to a more Rioja-like tart cherry profile. Very nice.

  • 2000 E. Guigal Côte-Rôtie La Turque

    France, Rhône, Northern Rhône, Côte-Rôtie

More masculine than the Mouline, as expected. Sweet red and black fruits, tar, and a spicy undercurrent. Relatively bold next to its peers, with a nice balance to the palate and a more grainy feel to the tannins. Ripe cassis-type notes. My favorite of the three right now.

  • 2000 E. Guigal Côte-Rôtie La Landonne

    France, Rhône, Northern Rhône, Côte-Rôtie

The most in need of age of these three wines. Tends more towards vanilla and black fruits with tar notes. Mouth-numbingly tannic. Relatively dense, especially on the front before a wall of tannins takes over. Considerably more approchable on day two - great mouthfeel and weight. All black fruits with an anise-like spice and leathery character. Very nice, but clearly needs a long, long time.
