Jason's House
Tasted Wednesday, July 26, 2023 by I'd Rather Be Drinking Wine with 151 views
This is a regular get-together that rotates between houses. For this tasting, we were joined by fellow CT'er AGElvis (Jaime). For those following my stories, you know this is a get-together that features one red wine, one white wine with a starter Champagne, or a Dessert wine, or both!
The idea is to allow a white wine and a red wine to shine on its own without having to share the stage with its brethren, i.e., without being compared to a similar wine. In doing that, each wine can be enjoyed, and the small get-together ensures everyone gets at least one healthy pour to follow a wine and note its evolution.
Another fun evening with friends enjoying some pretty darn good wines, a nice meal, and some camaraderie! Cheers!
2008 Louis Roederer Champagne Cristal Brut 97 Points
France, Champagne
Love Cristal, especially the 2008 vintage! Super fine mousse mouthfeel makes this wine taste creamy and delicious! Of course, being well structured with toasted brioche, pear, green apple and a hint of lemon meringue, all surrounded by chalky minerality and hints of saline don't hurt it either! 97+ without hesitation....why not 98? Probably because I am slightly penalizing this wine (maybe a half of a point) for not being quite at the standard of Salon or Selosse, but admittedly, this is a much better value than those wines and will remain one of my favorites for quite some time!
