Introduction

Each wine had a story. For example, the 1997 Antinori Solaia was purportedly bought in an Italian grocery store for something like 99,000 Italian Lira, roughly $70USD, and still had the price tag on it.

  • 2014 00 Wines Pinot Noir Stardance 95 Points

USA, Oregon, Willamette Valley, Eola - Amity Hills

I saw this wine decanted but don't know how long, maybe an hour. Drank a good-sized glass over 1.5 hours. Cranberry, cinnamon, cherry, bright acid contrasted with a round mouthfeel. Slightly candied, floral, palate is a a bit heavy and boozy. But dang is it tasty.

  • 1989 Château Ausone 95 Points

France, Bordeaux, Libournais, St. Émilion Grand Cru

Decanted prior to serving because a bottle 2 years ago was decanted an hour and seemed tired. Drank a good-sized glass over 2 hours. This was a significantly better experience. Slightly green and austere, with scorched earth, white flowers, a bit of anise on the end, tobacco, great complexity and well-integrated.

  • 1982 Château Léoville Las Cases 96 Points

    France, Bordeaux, Médoc, St. Julien

Decanted an unknown time then poured back into the bottle to drink a few hours later. Drank a good-sized glass over 2 hours. Chocolate, plummy fruit, tobacco, seems a darker palate than the 1989 Ausone. This really smoothed out in the glass with smoked meat and earth.

Drank a good-sized glass over 2 hours. This wine has chest hair. Its big and brawny, and also has amazing complexity. Dark rich fruit, licorice, black cherry, herbs, violets.

  • 1994 Bryant Family Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon 97 Points

    USA, California, Napa Valley

Decanted 4+ hours, drank a good-sized glass over 2 hours. Rich, round, very smooth, spicy pepper, blackberry, blueberry, currant, savory dill, earthy, kind of a blueberry pie without being so sweet.

  • 2001 Château Climens 97 Points

    France, Bordeaux, Sauternais, Barsac

I'll just say the same thing I said 3 years ago: This completed a tasting of some incredible wines, and this was stellar. This wine seemed open for business. There is orange, stone fruits, baking spice, brulee, and caramel. The balance is incredible, as is the complexity. This wine is on par with 2001 Rieussec, it would be fun to try them side by side.
