Introduction

I must admit my expectations for this show were low, but it did impress to some degree. Had I not worked the show and had to pay for entrance my opinion would be different. Many wines were tried but I only took notes on a few. Michael Meek was in attendance and his wines were pretty impressive. His estate Syrah, Inherit red blend, and Petite Verdot were my favorites of his line up. His wines definitiely were some of the best if you factor in QPR.

Flight 1 (6 Notes)

  • 2008 Meek Family Estate Sauvignon Blanc WJ Meek 88 Points

USA, Washington, Columbia Valley, Yakima Valley

Nose: Lemony qualities. Palate: Soft styled with the lemons showing. Nice.

  • 2006 Meek Family Estate Syrah WJ Meek 89 Points

USA, Washington, Columbia Valley, Yakima Valley

Similar notes to last time (7/9/09) but the oak seems a little more tame. Rich viscosity and good spiciness on the finish.

  • 2006 Meek Family Estate 91 Points

USA, Washington, Columbia Valley, Yakima Valley

Nose: Earthy with dark fruits. Palate: Spicy and earthy. Although not as rich as the '06' WJ Meek Syrah (surprising given this is the Estate) this wine shows more balance. Dark fruits in abundance and a solid finish that lasts for 30 seconds.

  • 2005 Meek Family Estate Inherit 91 Points

USA, Washington, Columbia Valley, Yakima Valley

Nose: Earthy and dirty (but in a good way). Palate: Good up front dark fruit with an elegant finish. Nice BDX blend from WA.

  • 2005 Meek Family Estate Petit Verdot 91 Points

USA, Washington, Columbia Valley, Yakima Valley

Nose: Floral with some subtle earth tones. Palate: Up front red fruits, good acidity and a very clean mid palate and finish. A very precise and pretty wine that would pair well with food or on it's own.

  • 2005 Malvira' Barbera d'Alba San Michele 90 Points

    Italy, Piedmont, Alba, Barbera d'Alba

Notes from memory. Nose: Very fragrant and floral (lavender). Palate: Good counter balance of acidity and deep plum flavors. A very clean and somewhat lengthy finish for a Barbera. Probably the best Barbera I have had (apparently this wine is made from 45 year old vines). Well made.
