Flight 1 - Assorted cheeses and meats (1 Note)

  • 1997 Coche-Dury Meursault 88 Points

    France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Meursault

    Bright golden yellow hue. Aromatics of caramelized pear fruit with some popcorn oak. Flavors of apple, lemon and lime fruit. Metallic minerality in the mid palate. Medium bodied. Reasonably well balanced. The fruit is fading a bit on the finish revealing a large oak backbone. This wine should have been consumed at least 5 years ago for my personal tastes however today it is still interesting to drink. 12.5% alcohol.

Flight 2 - Duck confit with lentils (2 Notes)

    France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Clos de Tart Grand Cru

    Ruby color. Earthy nose of dried raspberry fruit. Tastes of sour cherry, kirsch and earth. Medium bodied. Soft elegant finish.

    France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Clos de Tart Grand Cru

    Dark ruby color. Sweet cherry aromatics. Flavors of raspberry and earth. Medium bodied. Nicely balanced. Complex finish with some depth. 13.5% alcohol.

Flight 3 - Lamb shank and mashed potatoes (2 Notes)

    France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Clos Vougeot Grand Cru

    Darker ruby hue. Intense red fruit on the nose. Tastes of cherry, anise and lingenberry on the palate. Well balanced with very sharp acidity. Incredible depth and complexity on the long expansive finish. 13% alcohol.

  • 1990 Domaine A.-F. Gros Echezeaux Flawed

    France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Echezeaux Grand Cru

    Dominant barnyard on the nose makes it difficult to pick up that this wine is corked as well.

Flight 4 - Apple pie (2 Notes)

  • 1994 Zind-Humbrecht Tokay Pinot Gris Clos Jebsal Sélection de Grains Nobles 96 Points

    France, Alsace

    Bright orange color. Honeyed nose of orange blossoms and pear. Flavors of orange zest, melon, apple and lime. Full bodied. Well balanced. Long complex finish. Possessing more botrytis character than the Trie Speciale of the same vintage. 12% alcohol.

  • 1994 Zind-Humbrecht Tokay Pinot Gris Clos Jebsal Sélection de Grains Nobles Trié Spéciale 98 Points

    France, Alsace

    Burnt orange color. Nose of tangerines and honey. Flavors of pear, melon, lemon, cherry and orange. Well balanced with nice freshness. Some at the table said it needed more acidity, however I respectfully disagree. Super full-bodied with an almost syrupy character. Amazing complexity and depth on the mid palate with a finish that lingers in your mouth for several minutes. Simply outstanding and an incredible treat to try against the regular SGN bottling of the same year. A whopping 4% alcohol.
