Introduction
Skank-o-rama!
The only idea possibly worse than coming to this event was the idea that my wife and I would take our notebooks and attempt to write notes on wines. This festival is a joke. I'm pretty sure this event has been running for a long time and I wonder what the founders would think if they still went to it today. What I am sure was probably a nice festival with good wine and good people now is filled with old hags, dressed up bros and more dolled-up skanks than you could ever shake a stick at. It's hard to move around and worse yet the wines weren't all that good today. Maybe it was the attitude I was in but I was not feeling the wines at this event.
Since the group we were with were not wine drinkers and just came to get hammered I didn't spend much time at any one booth, thus my notes are single wines as I walked around the event.

My wife and I came up with a moto for this festival: NEVER COMING BACK!!! We were chanting it on the way home in the party van, it's just not our type of crowd.
The cops there are pretty cool though, they let all of the drunks come and pet their horses. My wife was lovin' it.
2008 Spangler Vineyards Chardonnay 82 Points

Pretty standard Chardonnay nose here, nothing jumps out. The palate is pear-peachy. A slight bite grabs you on the finish, a combination of alcohol and this wine's odd acidity. Feels limp on the palate. Still, tasty wine, just very standard.

2007 Namasté Vineyards Riesling Tranquility 85 Points

This was a nice Riesling for the price. Light apples on the nose, nice tart green apple palate with tons of skins leading into some gripping acidity. Ends tart, dry and clean. Simple but very delicious. Good job.

2007 Stangeland Gewürztraminer 83 Points

Light nose again, hard to detect. Green melon, apples, honey on the palate. Nice acidity throughout, small bite on the finish. Simple wine that goes down easy, nothing terribly exciting about it though.

2004 Cliff Creek Cellars Claret 83 Points

TONS of oak on the nose, stewed berries, reduced feeling. My wife took a single drink and poured the rest into my glass, not a good sign. Maybe it's just because I came from white wine, but the amount of oak on the palate on this wine was almost to much for my palate. The fruit is there but behind the oak. Dries the mouth out hard with some nice tannins, I like the grip. Tart blackberries, wall of oak on the finish.

2000 Château Bianca Pinot Noir Winery Estate Reserve 60 Points

I can barely stand to keep my nose in the glass long enough to smell this wine. Rotting fruit and nail polish remover nose. Smells horrible. Surprisingly doesn't taste near as bad, but doesn't taste like much. Sharp acids, tart fruits, alcohol on the finish, no balance. I didn't finish the taster I was poured.

2007 Purple Cow Pinot Noir Kelsey's Edition 85 Points

Super light colored in the glass. Nice nose of fresh strawberries, potpourri and oak. Big oak hit initially on the palate, nice fruit backs it up though. Strawberries mainly but there is to much oak here. A nice wine despite this, might suit some palates.

2006 Van Duzer Pinot Noir Estate 86 Points

Nice dark cherries on the nose, as well as some slight green-ness with some heat evident. Sour palate initially, tart cherries and red berries. Nice progression on the palate though, turning softer. Oak comes in on the finish along with a slight alcoholic kick. An interesting wine, tasty, but odd in places and not very balanced.

2007 Silvan Ridge Pinot Noir 87 Points

My favorite wine of the entire day at the Newport Seafood and Wine festival. I know that's not saying much, but this was perfectly delicious considering the competitors. Nice red fruit nose, some Oregon funk, nice smelling. Red fruit palate that is simple but balanced and delicious. Nice acidity and lighter but present tannins. Short+ finsih, ending clean. A nice weekday wine, no complexity or wow-factor, just a tasty and easy to understand bottle of OPN for the money.

2008 Snoqualmie Vineyards Riesling Naked 85 Points

Apple, sugar, peaches on the nose. Detecting lots of sweetness on this after coming back from a red wine, not a bad thing though, it's a nice sweetness if that's what you're looking for. Sugary peaches, orange melon, apple. Nice acidity throughout. A nice wine overall.

2005 Methven Family Vineyards Pinot Noir Willamette Valley 87 Points

Nice funky black and red fruit nose, some OPN funk with mushroom and soil. Nice red and black fruit and light earth palate, ends a little tart but hangs nicely for a good finish. A nice bottle of wine.

2004 Henry Estate Pinot Noir Barrel Select 82 Points
USA, Oregon, Southern Oregon, Umpqua Valley
Old wood barrel funk, smoke, red fruit nose. Odd smelling. The palate shows little balance or integration, some red fruit, a big burst of acid that diminishes quickly, age evident judging by the tannin and the earthy/funky flavors on the finish. Kind of makes my mouth feel dirty, and not in a good way. Still, it is an interesting wine, but not something I would ever be inclined to purchase for my palate.

2007 Silvan Ridge Syrah Reserve 84 Points
USA, Oregon, Southern Oregon, Rogue Valley
Plumy, black fruit nose, oak and green stems. The palate shows nice body, smoky black fruits, lots of acidity that isn't balanced right now. Campfire smoke and ash on the finish, medium strength tannin. Not a bad bottle of wine, maybe give it a year and see if that acidity mellows out. Judging by bottles I have had in the past though, don't age it much further than that.

2007 Namasté Vineyards Pinot Noir Reserve Prosperity Block 83 Points

Nice nose, red fruit, some oak, cedar, nutmeg, cooked salmon. Cooked salmon again shows on the palate quite strongly along with some red fruit. Nice acidity although once swallowed the flavor of this wine drops off immediately leaving only the structure behind. Not horrible, but not great by any means. My wife didn't like this at all and dumped it, I finished mine though.

2006 Stangeland Pinot Noir Vermeer Vineyard 87 Points

A nice black fruit nose on this one showing some depth. On the palate this is nice early with it's fruit, some cherry pie possibly, but then goes a little tart on the finish. Nice palate overall here though with decent length in the finish. Some heat detectable on the finish, not very balanced on the finish. A nice wine for sure if a little basic.

2007 Amity Vineyards Pinot Noir Sunnyside 87 Points

The last wine of a hard day of tasting, so my notes kind of suck. Take this as you will. Really light nose, slight greenness beside the red fruit and smoke. Smoky red fruit palate, lots of acidity. Light red fruit lingers in the finish. Nothing bad, nothing that great either. Still a very nice wine.
