Again, mature Riesling tones followed by dried peach and herbs. Relatively low acidity and lack of intensity/texture on the palate give it a rather dull feel, especially when contrasted with the Weinbach. Not great.
Green apple and orange blossom on the nose. Lighter weight than the Trimbach and much more lively and vibrant. Slight residual sugar adds to the balance here. Bright with a sour twist at the end. As much as I love Trimbach, this took the cake tonight.
France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Chambertin-Clos de Bèze Grand Cru
Deep ruby. Much more backward and forbidding than the Ursules. Mostly licorice and blackberry. Penetrating, powerful palate. Relatively monolithic but with a glimpse of smokiness, perfume, and complexity. Tannic and completely unready, but one can already see how great this might be in another 15 years. Glad to have a chance to try it.
