Introduction

Helinä brought the wines, I tasted double blind.

Flight 1 (2 Notes)

  • 2007 Rancho Zabaco Zinfandel Dancing Bull 80 Points

    USA, California

    Decanted for an hour, tasted double blind. This was a very dark purple, almost balck. The nose was very fruity, lots of black berry and plums, rather easy. On the palate this is quite raisiny, very little tannins, somewhat reminds of sweet strawberry juice. An easy drinker, nothing offensive about it, but bland. 50+4+8+12+6=80

  • 2008 Bodega del Fin del Mundo Pinot Noir Reserva 84 Points

    Argentina, Patagonia

    Decanted for an hour, tasted double blind. A very pale red, colour telling me immediately that this is most likely a Pinot Noir. Nose is rather interesting, with notes of tar and meat, not much fruit. The palate is very acidic, with some lingonberries and some tannins. Quite a hard wine, needs food to go with, but I thought it was rather nice. 50+4+10+13+7=84

Closing

These were actually quite ok wines, the PN especially generated quite some conversation. The Zin was a party wine, easy on the nose, easy on the palate.
