Introduction

Tasting conducted by Leonardo the winemaker. Very nice man and very gentlemanly like his wines. It is true that they say the wine will take on characteristics of the wine maker. Suprisingly consistent quality with the wines. Overall, not blockbuster wines and they never will be but Ithink it is good that the wines stay true to their roots . Little interference with little filtering done . Oak is hardly noticeable and the alc is well managed enough .

  • 2000 San Felice Chianti Classico Riserva Poggio Rosso 88 Points

Italy, Tuscany, Chianti, Chianti Classico DOCG

An expressive nose of tobacco, smoke, sour plum smoked duck, sichuan preserved vegetables and rounding off with a core of musky notes. Does have reductive soy notes but adds charm though. Spicy well extracted fruits with some alc but still well managed . Old world italian with a splash of modernity. Quite ripe fruits but finishes off dry. Excellent wine with velvety tannins and lingers long on the finish. Deliciously presented yet retaining old world nobility.Definitely drinking now with decanting but I suspect would really develop nicely in a few years.

  • 1996 San Felice Chianti Classico Riserva Poggio Rosso 86 Points

Italy, Tuscany, Chianti, Chianti Classico DOCG

Like an aged claret or an 80s aussie cab. Sort of herbaceous, new car black leather smells with whiffs of hospital smells too. Black spiced plums, fresh tobacco with sweet licourice. Past its peak but stil within its drinking window. A tinge of TCA on the first bottle but blew off quite quickly. Still a very backward nice wine.

  • 2000 San Felice Vigorello Toscana IGT 86 Points

    Italy, Tuscany, Toscana IGT

Peppery , spicy and brambly with cool leather. Taste of a young calf covered in mud . A full bodied robust and harsher tannins than the chianti classico. Powdery tannins and austere. Needs time to tame down but very good quality in the line of a supertuscan. Definitely modern but still restrained.
