Introduction
K&L's most recent Bordeaux tasting consisting mostly of the 2007 vintage with a couple of ringers coming in as well as a 2001 Sauternes at the end. All of the 07's were decanted approximately 3 hours prior to the tasting, with the 99 and 95 being popped and poured.
2008 Château Reynon Blanc
France, Bordeaux
Grapefruit, lemon grass, white flowers, and a touch of white pepper on the nose. Really crisp, round mouthfeel and good acid structure. Fairly primary and simple, I wonder if this was served just slightly too cold.

2007 Château La Fleur de Boüard
France, Bordeaux, Libournais, Lalande de Pomerol
Very new world. Aromatic nose full of cassis, cedar, spice, and cherries. Fruit forward with the cherries up front, but it did soften to a more earhty, and tobacco finish. This isn't made for any sort of long term aging, and isn't really very memorable.

2007 Château Larcis Ducasse
France, Bordeaux, Libournais, Saint-Émilion Grand Cru
This was a bit of a mess for me. Huge nose full of spicy, jammy blue and red fruits. This showed more like a zin on the nose than a Bordeaux (strike one). The taste follows the nose with flabby fruit and a bitter green streak across the mid palate (strike two), out of the practically non existent finish (strike three). You're out!

2007 Clos Fourtet
France, Bordeaux, Libournais, Saint-Émilion Grand Cru
Awesome, awesome nose of roasted coffee, earth, burnt pine cones, and black currant. Well balanced and vibrant with lots of dark fruits, currant into to a funky earth and roasted coffee finish. Probably my 2nd favorite of the 07's tasted today.

2007 Château du Tertre
France, Bordeaux, Médoc, Margaux
Tasted blind. Fairly muted nose of plums, violets, cedar, and spice box. The taste followed the nose with a very long, herb-filled finish. Over all one of the better wines in the flight, but fairly primary at this point. I would recommend a much longer decant to see if this blossoms more. Classic Margaux, IMO (I was proud of myself for calling this as a Margaux blind. Not often I can do that!).

2007 Château Lascombes
France, Bordeaux, Médoc, Margaux
Tasted Blind. Tons of scorched earth up front overpowering the softer roast coffee, currant, and blackberries aromatics and flavors. I find Lascombes to be a bit two faced. It either shows big and scorched like this one, or more classically floral and elegant. I wish more bottles I come across showed like the latter, but it has been 50/50 in my experience.

2007 Château Pontet-Canet
France, Bordeaux, Médoc, Pauillac
Even with the 3 hour decant, this was still not giving up much. Muted nose of eucalyptus, pine cones, and just a hair of black currant. Distinctly Cabernet to my palate. Rich black fruit up front and then it just kind of dies with only hints of earth and coffee on the finish. Of all the 07's tasted today, this had the most forward and drying tannins.
Came back about 30-45 minutes later for a second taste and this had gained some depth and opened quite a bit more. Finally the pencil lead and graphite flavors I love from Pauillac began to come through. If you pop it young give it a good looooong decant. Otherwise hide these away for a minimum 5 years. This is also one the only 07's tasted that I feel has any real age worthiness.

1999 Château Moulinet
France, Bordeaux, Libournais, Pomerol
Lots of Balsamic and prunes on the nose. Based on this alone, I wonder if this isn't dying a slow death. As soon as it hits your palate, however, the first noticeable thing is the still very vibrant acid. This mellows across the palate and shows sour cherry, prune, soy into the long mushroomy, sappy, earthy finish. I personally rather enjoyed this wine, but I think that most would probably struggle with it. I think it would show 10x's better with a mushroom risotto or other rich, earthy dish

1995 Château Grand-Pontet
France, Bordeaux, Libournais, Saint-Émilion Grand Cru
Popped and poured in the tasting, and we were one of the first to get a taste. I think this should have been decanted for at least an hour or so prior to the tasting as it showed only a muted nose of dusty earth, black currant, and coffee. Despite being a little tight, this was absolutely elegant and balanced with well integrated tannin. Black currants, earth and roasted coco beans, with a finish that lasted forever. Excellent.

2007 Château Petit Védrines
France, Bordeaux, Sauternais, Sauternes
Wow. Loads of cinnamon, apricot, honey, and some lemon zest on the nose. On the palate, this is insanely mouth coating, rich, and creamy with lovely honey and lemon curd into a botrytis, white truffle finish. This is likely one of the most decadent suaternes that I have ever had. Fantastic stuff.

2001 Château Petit Védrines
France, Bordeaux, Sauternais, Sauternes
Compared to the 07 we tasted this next to, this shows much more straight lemon and apricot aromatics with the honey taking more of a back seat. I noted that this seems fresher than the 07, which I was alluding to the less rich and creamy mouthfeel. Still utterly decadent, with bright lemon up front transitioning into the most amazing creme brulee you have ever had in your life.
