Burg wine tasting

I'm new to Burgs. Take my notes with a grain of salt. But there was an interest forum thread on RMP about not understanding Burgundy. Jury is still out for me, but it was a fun tasting.

• 2006 Paul Garaudet Chardonnay Bourgogne 71 Points

  France, Burgundy, Bourgogne

  Real licorice on the nose. And NOTHING on the palate. I knew I was drinking wine, but this had no taste.

  A little yellow apple peel on the nose with lemon and limestone minerality on the palate. Decent QPR.

  Tight on the nose. Might have been served a little too cold at tasting. Decent mouthfeel with good acidity and minerality.

  Had a very "this room was professionally cleaned a day ago" nose. So maybe a light carpet cleaning solution on the nose. Was very heavy on my tounge. This really didn't show that much.

• 2007 Jean-Paul & Benoit Droin Chablis Grand Cru Les Clos 91 Points

  Really balanced. Nose of limestone and chalk dust. The perfect amount of acidity down the middle of my tongue and citrus zest on the sides. Nice weight to this.

  Pure cherry juice. Better acidity balance than the '08 Bourgogne. Liked it, but a one note.

  Initial distant cow barnyard on the nose that quickly faded to honeysickle and cherry. The palate was cherry with a little raspberry and tulip. Medium weight. Lovely light red color.

  Tight on the nose. The nose reminded me of stepping outside for some fresh air. Also tight on the palate. Very little fruit, focused acidity on the palate.

• 2006 Maison Champy Corton 84 Points

  The only wine of the night that I could smell the alcohol and oak. Was a bit hot on the palate. Some oak and sour black cherry on the palate. Had a waxy mouthfeel to it.
